I really need some help here, because the vets here in Mexico are even more clueless about skin conditions than I am.
A friend's dog (8 or 9 year old border collie) has recently begun to lose all of his hair. His hair has thinned and fallen out everywhere, with some patches (where he has scratched or chewed) entirely bald. The bald spots are on the sides of his undercarriage, his armpits, and wherever he can reach to chew on his back legs. He's also lost almost all of the hair on the top of his head.
His skin isn't excessively dry or oily, but I washed him with medicated shampoo today and lifted up a TON of flakes. The skin seems rather fragile, while I was gently rubbing him dry with a towel he tried to attack me, and I saw a few droplets of blood surfacing where I had been drying his head.
He has recently recovered from valley fever and was/is being treated with fluconazole. I put him on an antihistamine for the time being, until we can figure out what's going on. Any and all suggestions are appreciated, I know an internet forum is no substitute for vet care, but right now I'm pretty much all the vet care he's got until we can get him to a vet in the states.
