OK, Kona is 11 months old. She started very light bleeding, then heavy bleeding, and now very light again after 2 weeks. We're being very cautious and want to know if this is the week that she will be attracting males. From what I think I understand, she will be attracting them for a week to a week & a half. Is this correct?
After this attraction week or so is over, will she bleed any more or just slowly start to get her hormones back in order? Her nipples are swollen a little so I'm assuming they will also go back down to normal. Thanks. |

My females usually only bleed about 7 - 10 days at the most.
A couple days after done bleeding, My male is very interested for about 5-7 days. Then the last week or so, she is still swollen but returning to close normal. But I keep them seperated during the whole process, just to be on the safe side.

Some females can get pregnant even after you "think" the heat is over. If this is her first heat, her nipples will be larger now, permanantly. But, the swelling at the base of her nipples (mammary glands) will start to go down some time after her cycle.

Thanks everyone. We're being VERY careful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Glad Max is neutered. I feel sorry for Max because he tries to hump Kona but can't figure out why he can't perform. Can't wait for January and the spaying.

Corykins22, I named her Kona because my brother used to live in Maui and I loved the coffee. Also, her dad's name was Kano so we switched the letters.
