I have never had much luck with the weavomatics. I find 2x2s MUCH faster and teach the dog how to to weave, ie how to find the entrance. But if it works for you thats great.

(I think good trainers have been getting weaves in a few days with the 2x2s.. lol takes me a bit longer, but less than 21 days to get basic weaving)

I've had past trainers attend a 3 hour workshop with dogs who didn't weave, or didn't weave well and come home with a dog who weaved fairly reliably. I'm all about the 2x2s.

I know dogs that have learned to weave in just a few days with WAMs too.

I wouldn't send a dog through WAMs on-lead though, the way she was at the beginning. Then again I generally wouldn't do any agility obstacles on-lead...

Definitely a matter of what works for you and for your dog. I had great luck training Meg on up rights from the start.

When I went out and bought some 2x2s and the video and went to seminar on them this summer to try and increase our distance on poles (distance in general being our biggest issue), I found that they just didn't seem to work for us. I have no doubt that I could go back and do a ton of different things to get her to the point where the 2x2s would be useful for her - but it isn't going to happen. If a new dog ever comes my way, I'd look harder at them.

Along with my concern over anyone doing agility on leash, I'm also not impressed to see a medium sized dog weaving at (I assume from the video) nine months.

Yeah, WAM's tend to be a thing of the past, not saying they can't work (that would be silly of me) but there are much better methods available now. Agreed, no pup should be weaving, too hard on them mentally and physically and I am never impressed when someone says their dog can weave at a young age. It isn't a matter of whether they but whether they should be.

I taught Stormy with WAMs, but the way this dog was taught... its basically encouraging him to push through the weaves with his shoulders.

If I had a big dog I might not want them pushing weave poles, esp as many venues have opened up the spacing.

There is a large dog here who will BREAK weave poles on occasion with his shoulders!! Most dogs don't hit that hard, but I do wonder about long term damage.
