Maybe a conversation with the vet would convince him - all the gory details, the risk of losing her, all the possible complications, the costs, possibility of ceasarean delivery, etc.
There were some good links here about whelping. Try doing a search on the forum with the word "whelping" to find them.

Don't think my dog has had her first heat yet, and I'm getting her spayed Thursday. But my question is since this is my first female is it really noticable when they are in heat? And you say spot do they bleed enough where you could see traces of blood on the furniture or carpet? Just curious...

well, from what I saw when i was there she had spots but frequent. Plus I don't think she's pregnant. At first I noticed that her nipples were getting bigger and bit saggy but when I saw her last Sunday it disappear. So im thinking that it could be a false pregnancy.

you defenitly can tell when a dog is on heat they do spot everywhere it doesnt poor out but you will notice it from where she is lying or sitting there vulva also swell to over twice the size it nowmally is that happens first so when you see that happen youknow the bleeding is not far away, but you said she is getting spayed soon you dont need to worry once shes spayed she wont bleed at all.

My girls' teats swell when they're going through estrus and right after. The first time it happened I positively panicked! Poor Buffy. I kept feeling her belly and checking her teats to see if they were getting any bigger, worried to death she'd somehow managed to get pregnant even though she'd been kept away from any male dogs at all.
Made me crazy! Okay, okay, crazier! lol
