Sorry I riled you, didn't mean to. Just passing along what I had been told. Body language means a lot to mine, if i put a stern look on my face and hands on my hips I don't have to hardly open my mouth. There was a documentary on human babies my mom had me watch today. They mixed up facial expressions with vocal tones. Confused the babies and fustrated them too. I have found with the children in my house that the higher pitched girls would say no and my dogs would think they were playing. I told them to say it firmly and with a growl, in our house it makes all the difference. Hope you find a solution, for no is such an important word. I also use a tone like the ehh or aaaaaa sharply that gets instant results from both chidren and dogs alike. I think dogs and small children are a lot alike in the fact that they know who is going to follow thru with the correction that goes with the command and act accordingly.

I think the low tone voice really works. I do that with Toki and he knows that's when Im serious. No is No. But Toki keeps pushing it, he will find other things to play so that I can keep telling him NO. hehe

The lower tone makes a big difference with my girls. Sometimes it's as simple as a low growling noise to get their attention and then just looking at them - and they lay down on the sofa and settle down for awhile. "What are you doing?" in a lower, stern voice also works wonders. If I say it with a laughing, amused voice I get a completely different reaction from them. But you all know I just talk to my dogs like I would an intelligent person. I don't know why it works; it just does and always has. Works with cats, too. Now, why, oh why, won't it work with men? lol

Bimmer's easy. Sometimes he turns to look at me before I even say his name. He's definitely 'tuned in' to the same frequency as me . . .

That said, Shiva and Kharma are perfectly capable of ignoring me until I say something that means business to them.

LOL I know what you mean Renee. I swear when I talk to my dogs low or high voice, they both are like saying "look at this dipstick" hehehehe but they do understand me. They do listen to me though and I can't have any complaints about them. They truly are wonderful dogs. I'll do my "EHH" then snap my finger point it down and say 'come here' and both of them will come, rub their nose on my finger and sit and wag their tails. I've been blessed I guess LOL

Bear, the GSD/Akita rescue who shared my life for years, was so funny with the voice thing. My Mom would talk baby-talk to him and he just ate it up. He loved it when she did it - turned all puppy on her. But if I did it he'd just stop and look at me like I'd completely lost my mind!

When Charley talks baby-talk to Shiva (that's something to see - rofl), she turns into a big lump of quivering puppy. I half expect her to pee all over herself with excitement Kharma ignores him and looks at him as if to say, "don't try to be condescending with ME!" He talks guy-talk to Bimmer most of the time; it's like they have their own little fraternal order . . .
