Now he is running around the house looking for his toys and barking obsessively because he can't find them or thinks they're in the walls.

BARKING DOG MUST DIE.

Oooooooh........ yeah....... sometimes it backfires.......

The good news is, most likely if you wait him out he will stop searching. When he calms down, GO GET A TOY and play with him for a few minutes. Then maybe scatter some kibble around for him to search for while you put the toy away, and hopefully he will settle down faster the next time.

GOOD LUCK!

I locked him in the room from me, away from the wall he's convinced holds his toy. He shut the heck up after looking for it for a bit and now he's relaxing with me, but when he tries that tomorrow that's what I'll do. Thanks.

You all are miraculous. I now have a dog who is only mostly annoying instead of completely annoying. (He still barks and screams when left in his crate and barks and throws himself at doors when you close them, but I can deal with that.)

Putting the toy away, off in a room where he couldn't smell it and bringing it out when I felt like playing worked. I was also working on giving the toy up when I asked for it by rewarding him with his kibble, and that went pretty well. Woot!
