That's abuse! Anyone seeing someone kicking a dog should report it to the authorities along with a video of it. That's outrageous! I wouldn't have been able to stand there and watch someone kicking a dog without body blocking them and giving them a serious talking to. I'd tell all those customers to take their dogs elsewhere for training. How could anyone watch someone being cruel like that to an animal?! Absolutely unconscionable!!!!

Had I been thinking quixkly instead of just staring in disbelief, I would have taken a video. I should have taken a video - I had my cell phone. The reason I didn't was a combination of "Seriosuly WTF?" and I suspect diffusion of responsibility. Also, I have to keep my OWN dog's safety in mind, and not go jump on someone with 6 aggressive GSDs with my dog in tow (who also happens to be reactive to GSDs thanks to my parent's dog...though he did awesome all day yesterday). I did, however, make a complaint to the sponsors of Yappy Days, so we'll see what happens.

Good for you! I hope something happens to protect those dogs. Yeah, I can imagine thinking WTF? In fact, I quite sure I'd be beyond imagining and would be hollering some obsenities that would make a sailor blush. LOL.

but we havent been keeping up with the practice and now...well.. he forgot lol I dont blame him, after I thought he knew it we didn't really practice as often as we should have

so its back to the drawing board for us! lol

Well, if you would read the posts, including the one I took my time to write to help you on your picture thread, asking for advice on controlling excessive licking, you could possibly take off your "bad trainer crown."

I use either the luring or capturing, depending on the dog.

"Pushing" the dogs into the sit position like a lot of people do, doesn't do a whole lot in my experience. Or they need you to touch their rear in order to sit, or at least bend over them. I find it much easier to gradually ease out a lure than a physical cue.

I'd say *most* people push the rear down, rather than the other way around. I was brought up to do that at least, and learned better methods afterward.

I'd swear I just read in the last two weeks an easy solution to getting "sit" started.

Close yourself and the dog in a small, boring room (bathroom w/out garbage, for example?) and wait. The dog WILL sit when faced with nothing else to do - and when that happens, you're ready with the click and jackpot.

This reminds me of Pryor's quote about how she laughs when people talk about how they can't teach their dogs "Down", considering how dogs will lay down on their own eventually. :P
