Awww....it's so hard to lose part of the family. I feel for you...my dog "Abby" a Border Collie/Lab was hit a few weeks ago.
Unfortunately they don't wise up where cars are concerned. A fenced yard, leash and supervision are key. I'm so sorry for you loss.
