Dog digging problems

but.. how can you eliminate this habit? As I really dont want to even give them the slightest notion that digging is a good idea.

Maybe scolding the hole by beating at it ....don't scold the dog. Sound crazy , but some think the dog finally gets the idea that a hole is bad and shouldn't be dug. I know, I know it sounds dumb, but it may work. Putting foul stuff in a dug hole will just have them dig elsewhere. Local cats will love the sand box !! Anxious the hear of solutions as I never had the problem in a bad area......my goldens used to love to dig in the woods at the base of trees which housed many interesting creatures.
