Default Abscess that popped

I have a one year old mutt (rat terrier, min-pin, bischon). She has what I think is an abscess on her chin that popped and drained. I am irrigating it with a saline solution the best I can and putting a little neosporin on it. I am trying to avoid a trip to the vet as I do not have the cash to pay for a trip there. Is there anything else I can do to help her?

Dogs can also get pimples and even "puppy chickenpox", more commonly referred to as canine warts.

Just keep an eye on it, as long as it's not draining constantly or looking infected, you should be ok.

When I had my carcinomas removed they said no neosporin . Clean with alcohol and dab on Vaseline .

My dog recently had an abcess which popped and got infected... I did go to the vet and they said twice a day to put a warm compress on the area and then clean with a solution they gave me, but no neosporin... hope this helps!

I have heard no neosporin also. Call a vet just to ask to be sure. That won't cost you anything. They may give you another idea to treat it also.

My old Pit Mix Gus was part of a litter that had chronic staph infections on their chins. There were 6 of them, and they all had it. I was told no Neosporin, and even after the vet popping and draining the pustules, it took a LOT of Keflex, given for a long time to finally clear it up. Once it was finally gone, it took about 3 months of dosing him with Keflex, which was expensive as hell back then, to get rid of it. A paraplegic friend of mine "forgot" his huge bottle of Keflex one time when he came over, and that was what allowed me to dose him continuously for all the time it took to resolve it.

Good luck.
