Ha ha, to be honest I wouldn't trust most of my friends and family with any hypothetical puppies I might produce. I'd rather track down other borzoi fanciers, they need a specific kind of owner.

Who has enough friends and family that they can place every pup they have, especially if they are a breeder? How many of you breeders know every person who you place a pup with personally? How many will interview the potential owner who is a complete stranger and place the pup based on how they interview and the vibe you get from them when you meet?

I don't think finding a possible owner for a pup over the internet is out of line. Plenty of quality breeders do it. You do it the same way you would do it face to face- lots of questions, from both sides. I know people who have bought pups sight unseen from Europe, and who have sold pups to people sight unseen all over the country, all based on interviews.

We found Daisy's breeder thru recommendations from a post I made here asking who knew any good Dane breeders in the mid Atlantic region. I don't think any of the people who recommended the breeder her knew her personally, and none of them knew me, so it was a blind call and meeting that got us Daisy.

You guys are such knit pickers, I mean, really- so he wants to sell a couple pups over the internet because buyers backed out. Wouldn't you rather they be sold thru this board, where at least most of the people care enough to try and learn how to be a good dog owner?

I dont think Mia meant JUST going to family. I think she meant not shipping to complete strangers WHO STAY complete strangers.

Most of the people breeders sell to would probably start out as strangers, who happened across them through the kennel club, or a friend. If I ever had to rehome one of my dogs, and no family could take him/her, I would not ship them blindly to someone over the internet, I would want to meet the person, even if it was a stranger, they wouldnt still be after the dog was with them.

I think thats what was meant.

I stay with Ivor's owners when I show near them. "Special" doesnt even begin to cover it.

I had 8 Zoi, a beagle, and a cat sleeping on my bed when I went to get into it.

More or less, yes. Still, I will get to know you BEFORE a dog ever leaves my possession to get into yours.

But that's just how I personally do things. I have no problems keeping my circle closed. In fact, the APBT community needs to be closed and soon. It's because the APBT has been put into the hands of strangers and the ignorant that we are in the trouble we are in today. So maybe I'm a bit "harsh" on this topic, but the survival of my breed depends on it.

The guy that now owns Whiskey was a "complete stranger" in New Jersey (I'm in Louisiana). Whiskey was my blue-brindle "pit bull" that I rescued after Hurricane Katrina. Someone on another forum fell in love with his pictures and my stories about him and contacted me. We began talking via the computer then talking on the phone. I spoke with others who knew him.

After months and months of talks and discussion, my instinct was telling me that this was the perfect forever home. When they offered to drive all the way down here, knowing that they may be leaving without a dog if I didn't feel the face-to-face went well or had bad feelings, I knew even more than this was the right family. They were also a family with many years of "pit bull" experience and education.

So essentially we were "strangers", but now we are long-distance friends.

So I completely understand the initial "stranger" part, but of course we all started off as strangers. That's not really what I'm getting at. I'm talking more about just sending a pup to someone...anyone...on the internet that offers to pay for it. I will never sell or give a dog to some random person on the internet that does nothing more to get to know me or my dogs than offer to send me money via Western Union in return for the dog. I value my dogs much more than that.
