OMG, OMG!!! She is way-y-y-y-y-y cute! Thanks for posting CP. Those big, doe eyes. They remind me of a dog I had when I was a kid.

Pepper did this, in fact she was queen of the bolt. WE started with daily obedience..sometimes several short sessions. She had to sit and stay when i opened the door and that we practiced also many many times a day. SHe moved and the door shut. SHe was not allowed to go out the door on her own until i stepped out of the door and gave the release command. THat too became a game and she learned to enjoy the anticipation. IT takes time but your dog will be safest in the long run. WOrk hard on your recall ..even making a game of it. I did hide and seek with Pepper first in the house, then in the yard as well as her sit stay come. In fact hide and seek was the reward for a good session. SHe just didn't know it was more training.

HEre she is when she had finally "got it". THey are both scoping out the squirrel situation so they can get there first before the other one.

SHe was an established runner which made it harder, but it really took aboutt a year of daily regular practice and training. YOu will be glad you did when it's all said and done.
Making sure your dog gets plenty of exercise too. It was extra hard when it was freezing out and i could not walk them. Three days of being cooped up in the house and i would have to really take care until she was a hundred percent.

I'm glad you got some good advice here. My advice: Start NILIF, now!!! And don't ever stop.

Wanta is so cute... when ever I see her name, I always think of the Fanta commercial. "Don't you Wanta?"

Be careful not to catch her with the door...i caught Pepper right in the middle once. Good grief was she ever fast. WE still do the sit and stay before the door opens. Everytime no matter what. I had a hard time getting my family not to grab for her collar evertime it came to the door issue. I told them they were only giving forth the message that if no one was holding her she could get away. THe only way she was ever getting out of the door was to wait politely. Drove the kids nuts for they wanted to in and out so i did allow them to put her in the bedroom first if they were going to be in a hurry and making more then a couple trips but other then that everyone had to be on board and do exactly the same thing.

Wanta is drop dead gorgous!
