Default Why is my dog eating so much grass?

I have seen this twice with my dogs: She begs to go outside like it's and emergency, and then frantically (sp?) eats grass like it's the last thing she'll ever do. Rita had a spell of this several years ago for several days. I wormed her and the problem stopped. I can't say for sure that the worming did it or if the timing of it just coincided with the end of the grass eating. Now this evening the dogs were happily chewing on beef bones (safe ones that they can't swallow), there was a little meat left on the bones, and marrow. Lady coughed, just one cough, and then all of a sudden she jumped up, demanded to go out, and started eating grass like crazy. She ate grass for 5 or 10 minutes until I finally made her quit and come in. She seems fine now, but I wonder if this is the sign of a problem. Does anyone have any ideas?

Some of mine just eat grass. Some of mine eat it to help them throw up probably because they have an upset stomach.

Yes, all of them eat grass, but this seems extreme. She hasn't acted like this before.

Pit does this sometimes. He has an iron stomach, so if he's trying to make himself puke, it doesn't work. He generally stops after about a day and is normal again. If she continues to act this way, a trip to the vet might be in order.

Thank you, I will have a vet check it out if it persists. I just wondered if anyone els had experienced this, and if they knew the cause.

Mine eat grass when they're outside, but they've never insisted on going out simply to be able to eat grass. I agree with having them vetted if it continues.
