I feed my dog "people" food but I make sure that she is not allergic to it. So far so good. She has gained weight when I started giving her people food. She was on dog food before but then she does not want to stay on one type of food so I change her dog food every now and then. She just does not want eating the same type of food. There came a time when she absolutely won't eat and had hyperacidity as a result. That's why we finally decided on giving her the same food that we eat. I just keep track on what she's eating just in case she is allergic to some food.
