Default Depth of field examples...

no real point unless someone wanted to see the differences.

The coffee can is three feet from the candle.

Nothing down in PS except setting my whites. Not even a crop.

I don't know a lot about photography, but this really helps explain to me very simply what a change in settings does. Thanks so much for illustrating this.

Ohhhh... THANK YOU! I have been trying to figure this out. I've been trying to read up about it, but THIS makes a whole lot more sense to me than any book has. Lol... maybe I'm just slow, but I think I've got it now!

glad it helps a big. The big difference here is the aperture. The shutter speed was only adjusted after I set the aperture

I had the 1.4 but sold it... and regret it. I'm going to have to buy another; it is my favorite lense for portraits.
