So sorry to hear about all the troubles you're having with your dogs. It must be quite frustrating. Unfortunately, I don't have any suggestions for you. My dog seems to have quite different symptoms. Now that she's been on the prednisone for about two weeks, the symptoms have pretty much disappeared. She's on a low dosage which means not too many side effects. I got all nervous when someone on the message board mentioned how bad prednisone is for dogs but I did some more research and learned that the anti-inflammatory kind that she is on is not as detrimental as the other kind. Also, humans have very different and a lot more side effects to drugs than dogs do. The swelling I was expecting from the steriods doesn't occur in dogs. I hope to ween her off the meds soon. But, I'm afraid that her allergic airway disease might be with her for life. I wish I could treat her homeopathically. Anyone know of a animal homeopath in the Toronto area?

My dog had the hack/cough thing. Does your dog do it at certain times?
My dog did it when he was excited or if we were walking him it was as if we were strangling him with the leash.

We began walking him with a harness & that helped some. If he did it from being excited we just pet him and talked softly to calm him down. Also the Vet recommended lifting his rear end up in the air... we would pick up his hips so his hind legs were in the air. I dont know how large your dog is, so this might be difficult... my dog was small. I dont remember the reasoning behind it, but it helped some.

The Vets really couldnt find anything wrong with him, so hopefully your dog's problem is minor like my dogs was. If you have any other questions about this, just ask.

The swelling isn't what you have to worry about. It's the tumors.

Here's a link to a site that might help you locate a vet for alternative treatment. It's the American association, but there are links to other international sites as well.

Good luck.

Thanks Renee750il.... but, I didn't see the link you mentioned? Would you mind putting it up again? I'm interested in looking up an alternative treatment specialist.

Kennel Cough? No way. I have a host of things that i know it isn't. My little man is getting worse even on antibiotics so I'm taking him off them and trying the Benadryl. He has been vomiting lately even after i took him off the sulfa drugs. The sulfa wasn't helping the Chihuahuas either. Now I'm treating the symptoms but i can't live with having to give them all benedryl for the rest of their lives. You guys that say live with it. Is that what your vets told you? I have to wait until the symptoms get worse and then take him to an internist for CAT scan and MRI with no guarantee that it will show anything. Its going to run into the hundreds and maybe even a thousand dollars. He is getting worse by the day. The Chihuahuas seem to just level of at the loud sniffing and reverse sneezing. I have never seen any mucus to even test. WJ

Sorry about that. I got in a hurry and didn't notice that it didn't paste.
