Default Brushing hassles

Hey guys,

I'm having troubles burshing my doggy. Sometimes as soon as he sees the brush he runs away. Any tips on how to get him to enjoy being brushed? Thanx

well, if he is running away, do you have anywhere you can hook a leash up to? (prob want to do it outside, lol)

i usually give my dog a yummy treat that takes him awhile to a kong stuffed with peanut butter, ot whatever your dog happens to like.

That way he concentrates on the toy, and not you...cause one Oakley finishes with his treat, he likes to try to play with the brush...

Thanks Jessie!

How about holding the brush in your hand and hold a treat in another. Then if he sits, give him the treat. Slowly, take the brush closer to his back. Giving him treats.

I heard someone on this forum say a while back that they give their dog an old brush to chew on while they brush him/her with the other one.

Take it slow and always be gentle. Maverick is very sensitive with brushing so I just take my time with him. He's never all been done in one day.

Let him sniff the brush and give him treats. Hold the brush against him and give him treats. Do this for about a week until you can gently stroke him with the brush. Give him lots of treats and praise. Start to brush him gently. and give him treats. Maybe just do one or two strokes for the first few days.

The key to anything dog is to be patient and consistent. He'll come around.

What a fluffy thing
