Default You think you Know It all?

I am a Professional Breeder of working Sibes and Chins. And i want to make sure everyone who comes here understands just how much time and money responsible breeding takes. Here I go

So you want to breed your dog? First off do not breed your dog before the age of 2 years i wait until 3-4 years of age. Then have health checks done on both dog and ***** blood tests everything and temporment tests. If there is one problem one fault anywhere health or behavior wise DO NOT breed spay or neuter right there. Why? Because say its just a small problem with your dog and it has puppies and its puppies has puppies somewhere down the road that problem will escalate. Also if there is a problem with the ***** that could complicate the pregnancy or delivery don't breed or you could lose both ***** and puppies. This also makes it unlikely for you to get a deformed, still born, or green puppy You may not have to deal with it but if you know its wrong. Also these tests are expensive.

So lets say the dogs are both breeding quality great! Your ***** comes in heat I breed my ***** and dog 4-5 times during the heat cycle. DO NOT leave the dogs in the breeding process alone for ONE second! A ***** in heat can kill a dog or inure him majorly. DO NOT leave them ALONE!!!! if the ***** does not want to mate or seems nervouse don't force it.

With in a few weeks to make sure your ***** is pregnant take her to the vet. Have more blood tests and a sonogram done to make sure the mating was successful. You will then know for sure your dog is pregnant and is not going through a false pregnancy. This also costs money but is best for your dogs health and well being this also gives a good idea as to how many pups are coming.

A Pregnant ***** does not usually show a belly until her last couple of weeks of pregnancy. Your ***** should go on atleast 2-3 checkups before the pups are born and feed her a diet reccomended by your vet. Also before your pups are born you will need to invest in the following to make up your whelping kit.

1 ounce (30 ml) of Self Rinse Plus in a "Spritz" Bottle for Post-Partum clean-up of the dam's back end and tail.
1 Tablespoon Polycose (powdered Glucose for extra energy.)
2 Disposable Clamps for clamping the cord.
Disposable Scissors for cutting the cord.
Rectal Thermometer-Dual Read - Celsius/Fahrenheit
8 packs of Sterile Lubricant
8 "Birthing Cloths" for holding & drying the puppies.(colours will vary)
Whelping Record & Temperature Chart.
1/2 ounce (15 ml) of Mineral Oil - in case the pup gets 'stuck'.
1/2 ounce (15 ml) of Dettol concentrate - for disinfecting the scissors & forceps between pups.
1/2 ounce (15 ml) of Nature's Anwer Concentrate chemical-free cleaner - for post-partum washing of the whelping box.
You supply the newspapers & the cold milk with a teaspoon of brandy to mix with the glucose when needed .
And a you need to build a Welping Box in a safe private place

Ok your dog is going into labor you need to have someone there assisiting you and the vets number on hand. The first pup is almost always the biggest and the hardest to come out so be prepared for that. I can't tell you how many puppies will come it depends on the breed. You also need to have homes lined up for your puppies atleast 1 year before hand to make sure they are qualifide and perfect for your puppy.

The Puppies will also need vet check ups sometimes as early as 3 days to get dew claws removed though I do not have my puppies removed but some breeds it is best. This all cost money as well as they will need their puppy shots and such and if you want to register as well that will cost money.

In all truth when you sell your puppies it will not in any way total to what you have paid on vet bills. But if you are a good responsible breeder you will not mind and it will all be worth it .

I hope if you are thinking about breeding you read my post first. I am 3rd generation in breeding quality healthy working Sibes and Chins and Mushing. I know what I am talking about and I hope my post makes you think long and hard about what your getting into .

Also please refrain from breeding mix breeds its is wrong. And we have enough Mutts in animal shelters and on the street.
Scarlette

Dont forget the cost of the whelping pen, they are not cheep. Also scales are a necessity, then there is the regestraition of the litter and any docking dew claw removel etc

Thanks for your insite, the only thing is those that see $$$$$$$$$$$$ aren't gonna hear a word you say. They'll breed breed breed and those poor dogs will suffer because of their greed. I just wish that there would be some way to make it manditory to fix all dogs sold. (sorry for the rant) I Spay or neuter every animal who comes into my house!

I feel the same way in my contract it says that when each of my puppies come of age they MUST be spayed or neutered and I even do home visits to make sure it has been done.
No Worries Gallien

So do you not breed for showing then? Dont breeders only say that the pet quality dogs be neutered. I have read it 3 times now and I cant see anything about the cost of a whelping box, or scales, can you show me where, coz i think I'm going mad lol

Thanks for the post, I'm sure lots of people will learn from it. But how can you find homes for the pups a year before they are born? Won't people want to know what the puppy will look like and stuff?

People know Scarlette's dogs by reputation. There are always line-ups to get her dogs because they know she breeds quality.

If they know the parents and have seen them they will be put on a waiting list you then inform them when you plan to mate and when the litter is due, they will proberly have a preference like dog or ***** and some will want a particular colour in mind
