Default FRIENDS REUNITED .. front page story

A nice front pager this week in the English language newspaper for the East Coast region here, makes a change from negative news, and so nice to see that the family leapt straight in the car --- such a contrast to the stories of abandoned animals etc... and a very good advert for microchipping or similar to ID your pet!

FRIENDS REUNITED

Brits do a good turn

A SHAGGY TERRIER WHICH WAS LOST BY HOLIDAYMAKERS FROM THE NORTH OF SPAIN IN SAN MIGUEL DE SALINAS SIX MONTHS AGO IS TO BE REUNITED WITH ITS OWNERS AFTER BEING FOUND ALIVE AND WELL NEAR THE TOWN.

Trevor and Carole Hughes took the bedraggled animal to a veterinary clinic this week when it was discovered by their neighbours wandering near a canal close to their home.

The couple, who live off the Torremendo road, were delighted to find the dog had a microchip which allowed veterinary staff to identify and contact the owners.

Trevor and Carole then received a phone call from a Spanish family who said they would travel 600 kilometres to San Miguel to pick up their beloved pet.

Former prison officer Trevor, originally from the Isle of Wight, said yesterday: “They rang us up and we didn’t understand them at first but they have an English friend who called us back and explained the situation. They had been on holiday down here in December and that is when the dog went missing. We have arranged to meet them in the square in San Miguel to return the dog to them.”

Dog lovers Trevor and Carole think the plucky terrier may have been living rough since he was lost and that he has survived for six months on his own.

“He was in a hell of a state when we got him,” said Trevor. “His fur was all matted and he was really dirty. We have put him in the bath but he really needs to be trimmed.”

And Trevor had a heartening message for people who have lost pets recently.

“Sometimes people give up after a while when they have lost a dog but this proves that there is always hope of getting them back,” he said.

...I love happy endings, I am so sick of hearing news about dogs killing people.
