Indian Breeds

Just out of curiousity . the breeds being discussed in this forum are all european , american or chinese . do you people know about indian breeds like rajapalayam , kanni , kombai , chipiparai and indian mastiff ( bully kutta )?

I've never heard of them either. Out of curiousity, to you mean Indian from India or Indian native american? I would also love to see some pictures.

Rajapalayam: Apparently a small boar hound.


Kanni: From what I can see, it's a hunting dog that almost exclusively used to be a dowry item.


Kombai/Combai: A bear hound?


Chippiparai: a sighthound type.

Bully Kutta: basically large molosser type I think - neat looking dogs

Of the breeds you have mentionned I only really know the Bully Kutta. Awesome dogs!

To bad they are being used so often for fighting.


Their look varies a fair amount. Many people say the term Bully Kutta, encompasses a type (like the Term Pit Bull), rather than tight breed standard.

It's true that they are used for fighting. But dog on dog fighting isn't the most common form. It' more dogs vs. bear or other large animals. And it's a huge cultural "sport" in places like Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, & other middle east countries.

sizzledog thanks a lot u saved me a lot of trouble . this is all guys . i wanted you to know about the indian breeds . these dogs are very sturdy dogs immune to lot of diseases can adapt to various climates and foods . i have had a rajapalayam before , its a superb dog guard dog and very obedient and beautiful .
