Default Personal question for just the ladies- possible tmi

Advice needed.

So I recently started having a lot of pain down there. I'm completely swollen down there, skin is inflamed and it hurts like bloody hell to wipe when I go to the bathroom. I need to see a Dr like yesterday.

Here's my dilemma. My health insurance was through my parents but it cut off on my 26th birthday a few months ago. I'm still in the process of trying to figure out an affordable health insurance option because holy crap buying your own insurance is expensive.

That said, this is not something that can wait and I'm worried. I can't have sex with my husband right now because of the pain and I'm not willing to anyways until I see a dr and get treated for whatever is going on.

Are there free health clinics that offer gynocology stuff for this sort of thing? If not then how do I go about finding a gynocologist that isn't going to charge me an arm and a leg? I can't afford to be billed thousands of dollars right now, but I also don't think I can afford to not see a dr.

Something like Planned Parenthood should offer some services like that fairly cheap, given that their funds haven't been dropped in your area.

Doc in the Boxes aren't bad, and depending on what you have and what you need you're only looking at $200 tops, maybe. Walk in clinic, type of thing.

Actual Gyno might be a bit more, but I don't think you'd even hit a thousand. Maybe $300-$700 range? Depending on how highly they think of themselves, I guess. Everything over that I would assume is a specialist-in-house.

This is crazy to me! I go to an actual gyno, at a nice office and my yearly exam with pap is $120!! My visit to discuss some weird symptoms and just have a pelvic done was $73. We rarely pay over $100 for any type of doc visit.

Planned parenthood has a sliding scale depending on your income. If you don't have a PP (my area doesn't) the health department usually does. In my area, because we don't have a PP, there are nurses who have a women's clinic at the Health Department one day a week. They do all testing, etc and go by income as well.

If all else fails, you can always go to a walk in/urgent care type facility

Do you have anything like Planned Parenthood around there? Or a minute clinic? Do you think it's any kind of yeast infection?

I
Would just go to a GP... Regular old
Doctor. My doc would be the first person I would go to and it woildn't cost anywhere near THOUSANDS of dollars. Maybe $200. So just go to your doc

I don't have a GP dr that I go see so I would have to find one in the area that would be willing to take me. The last time I actually saw a dr was when we lived in New Mexico... I know that's not good since I should be having normal yearly checkups. :/

No worries, I have no "regular" doctor and don't go for yearly general health checkups. I do go for yearly girly visits. Prior to having insurance I used Planned Parenthood (when I lived in IL) and the health dept (here). I don't think I ever paid more than $50 at the health dept.

The website I found for PP out here had a list of some of their prices. It definitely looks affordable... no more than around $200 it seems. Do you have to pay them the full amount during your visit or do they usually bill you?

It could be a yeast infection, but I'm unsure. I've had yeast infections before and this seems different. It could be though.

I just checked online and we do have a planned parenthood. The closest one is in Falls Church which is roughly about an hour from me, but seriously I'd drive wherever at this point honestly because this is just miserable. I can afford probably roughly about $300-400 max though lesser is better since I still need to fly my cat back from Lauren's still. He was just neutered (thank you SO much to you and PW for taking him in to have that done btw) so I still need to pay for his pre-flight vet inspection, flight and I think he needs a new carrier since he has grown a bit. Aiming to get him back before the end of this month, preferably after my next paycheck.
