I've been playing around with the settings on my new camera. It's been fun so far! Nothing spectacular yet, just getting a feel for everything. It saves all my settings on the files, so I get to figure out what works when. It's been a while since I messed around with this sort of thing, so I'm trying to figure it all out all over again!

Have you tried upping your ISO? Indoors with no real lighting I usually never go below 800, and often am at 1600 (highest ISO on my cam).

Fun! That first photo cracks me up, what shutter speeds are you using?

This goes up to 1600, too. But I find when I use it it gets really washed out and feathery. I haven't figured out which setting works best with it yet. Since it's a p&s it's settings are named things like Sports, Children, Night Scene, Portrait, etc....So it's hard to figure out the shutter speed.
This was ISO-1600. f/3.2. Same lighting as above. exposure time 1.6 sec and no flash. EDIT: whoops. Pic was huge...one moment.

There will be more "noise" at 1600 - that may be the feathering you're talking about. The long exposure time will also mean more blur, either from your hands shaking, even slightly, or your subject shifting.

I think the fastest shutter speed I can get is on Sports. But on Auto it can vary from 4 sec. to 1/2000. But I can't manually adjust the shutter speed like I can with EV and ISO.
Is "exposure time" under properties/details my shutter speed? This camera is confusing me. I think semi-manual is more confusing than completely manual. But at least I get more options than with completely auto.

More Zaner pictures. Luckily, he's a pretty patient subject. Flash is my worst enemy right now. And white balance. Both reset to auto every time I change settings.
f/3.2 1/10 sec ISO-800 ![]() f/3.2 1/8 sec ISO-400 EV: -.7
