min pin problems..

okay i got a min pin two days b4 crhistmas.. and i was wondering if any of things are have to deal with his breed.. tha major thing is he doesnt seem to get tha whole house breaking thing.. hes like 11 wks.. and he only goes on the pad about 1/3 of tha time.. im not sure if thats normal or not or if im jus not paying enuf attention to him.. and also im not sureif hes afrid of me or if he thinks im going to crate him (which he hates) or if hes playing but when i go to pick him up or even sometimes jus walk his way he runs the opposite way.. i dont know if hes breed is jus that stubborn or if i jus need to work with him and play closer attention to him.. but u guys suggestions would rly help thnx!!

Well, from what I know about the breed is that the are hard to housebreak, as well as stubborn. (Smart, but stubborn.) Just out of couriosity, where did you get him? Petstore pups are often hard to house break.

Forget the fact that petstore pups are harder to house break...petstore pups come from puppy mills...nuff said

Pet store pups can be hard to housebreak because they come from bad breeders (puppy mills/byb). They often live in dirty cages and learn to sleep in their own filth. That's why when you bring them home and they don't have the basic instinct to not (try not) to poop in their den.

She said she got the pup from a good breeder anyway.

My bf mom had a mini pin who was her best friend. I wasn't around at the time but the dog would follow her everywhere and do what she did. They really loved eachother. Then the mom got really sick and couldn't eat. The dog stopped eating too and made herself really sick so she gave it to another home. Sad. She still really regrets that that happened and talks about that dog all the time.

I met a cute little mini pin in a park and thought he was great. The owner had only good things to say about him. He was very social and not intimidated by my big dog much. Yapped a lot but didn't really mind. I picked him up and he was so springy in my arms. He didn't want to be held long and would just leap out of my arms when he was done. I thought he was a neat little dog.

And that is my, oh so extensive, experience w mini pin.

Well, I'm glad to hear you did your research!!! If any breed should be purchased on a whim, it isn't the Min Pin. Here is the profile on them. It is out of Your Pure Bred Puppy:A Buyer's Guide second addition, written by Michelle Welton. (I LOVE this book, if you guys hadn't figured that out already lol) I'll just give you their temperament, and not the whole profile for sake of brevity . lol


TEMPERAMENT
The AKC Standard says that the Min Pin's characteristic traits are his 'fearless animation, complete self-possession, and spirited presence." This sleek, elegant, deer-like breed with the quick, prancing gait is the "busiest" and most intense fo the toy breeds, which is why his fanciers like him so much. Assertive and proud, athletic and agile, he is convinced that he's a big dog. He seems to be in perpetual motion and enjoys brishk, interactive games. He also demand cuddling and often must be surgically removed from your lap or chest whenever you rise from the couch. He is a lover of comfort0 usually that lump under the blacket is the resident Min PIn. Outdoors, he must be kept on-leash or in a securely fenced area at all times, for he is sharp-eyed, curious, and extremely quick. Unless exceptionally well trained, MIn Pins don't come back when you call them, and often they don't stay where you leave them- they are artful climbers and clever escape artists. Keenly observant and territorial, this breed takes his watchdog role seriously, often showing strangers his backside, accompanied by defiant kicking of the ground with his rear feet. Early and frequent socialization is required so that he doesn't become sharp or shrill. Min Pins can be dominant with other dogs, and smaller creatures will be pursued with determination. In the right hands, this bright breed is very trainable, but he has a mind of this own and can be headstrong and demanding. Min PIns are tough on toys and will rip sqeakers and stuffed animals to shreds. They love to bark and housebreaking can be difficult.

CAUTIONS WHEN BUYING
The extreme quickness of this dynamic little breed cannot be overemphasized. They are very oriented to sight and motion and spend most of the day up on their tiptoes, investigation everything that catches their interest.
