And in a moment, she was gone... :(
My heart is broken this evening.
Last night at work I said goodbye to a dog that I have been taking care of for over a year now. I fed her her very last dinner. She didn't have much of an appetite so I sat on the floor next to her and hand fed her to encourage her to actually eat. Gertrude was an entlebucher with cock-eyes. You never knew if she was actually looking at you or elsewhere lol. But... I adored that little ol'lady. She just went downhill so fast. We noticed she was limping and one of my coworkers found a lump on her paw. We took her to the vet with her owner's permission and they ended up doing surgery on it and ran x-rays. Turns out she had bone cancer. She went downhill SO fast in just a matter of days. It just feels so unreal right now that she is gone.  Yesterday I went to take her out to go potty and she couldn't even walk. I ended up carrying her out to an area of mulch nearby to get her to potty and then carried her back. It broke my heart when her owner came to get her yesterday evening. We had to carry her up to him since she couldn't walk anymore. He saw us carrying her and lost it. He cried and then I started crying too because she was so far gone and we knew it was her time. I said goodbye to my little Trudey-pants and now she is gone... gone forever. She wasn't even my dog, but it felt like she was since I saw her and took care of her nearly every day for over a year now. I miss her so much.

She sounded like a special dog and was a pretty girl. Hugs to you and your friend.

So sad.
That's one of the hardest things, I think, about working with the public's dogs. If you're any good at what you do, you get attached. It's only natural. But when you're attached to so many dogs, it seems like loss is always lurking right around the corner.

Awww....I'm so sorry. After taking care of her every day for so long, of course she had a very special place in your heart. Darn cancer! I'm so very sorry. (((hugs))) And sympathy to her owners. How very hard.

I'm sorry--she sounds like she was a sweet girl. Tough to lose any of them--whether they belong to us or not...they often capture our hearts.
