dock diving depth

My brother is interested in dock diving and lives on a lake. How deep should the water be where the dog is jumping to be safe?

Also any tips on getting the dog to jump?

The regulation pools are 4' deep. Some of the larger dogs do touch the bottom when doing Extreme Vertical, though. For Big Air, the 4' should be a good minimum. Our lake is muuuuch deeper off the end of the docks there vs. the depth at the shore.
