Journey!

I'm starting to unveil some of my work from the Christmas season... this is Journey, owned by Dana Montero. Dana is an excellent canine nutritionist, some of you are familiar with her. She's always been a fan of my work, has referred folks to me and has generally been one of those awesome promoter-folks. Some folks pooled together to give her this portrait for Christmas, and I provided a discount as a means of thanks to her for all of her kind words.

The majority is drawn digitally - I do it all freehand with my Wacom tablet, so they're still "drawn" - I used to do the sketches digitally as well, but lately I've found my work is better if I sketch by hand. It gives the final piece a LOT more character - when sketching digitally with the ability to undo every five seconds, my work got very precise and robotic. I still have a very loose freehand with a pencil and paper, so the work flows better.

Journey was sketched by hand and inked/coloured digitally, but most of my 2011 work was full digital. I'll likely be sketching my hand more often, and I really would like to focus more on real media practice this year. I love it, I just need practice.
