at making myself a little key rack. I didn't do any of the woodwork, just painted two pieces of scrap trim! I made one for school and one for all of my petsitting keys. I didn't include it in this image, but I made little tags to hang on each of the three petsitting key rack hooks with my petsitting dog clients' names on them so that I can keep track of whose key is whose.
The key rack for school has a hook to hang on the wall and the petsitting one is just propped up with a photo frame holder, but at the point that I took the pictures, I just leaned them both up against the edge of the counter. ![]() ![]() I'm pretty happy for my first successful artsy crafty attempt in a while! |

That's cute! I need to do something like that, though I don't have quite the amount of keys to keep track of that you do.

Thanks! Yep, I painted the little dog as a cartoon version of one of the little Westies that I watch. I had to use white primer to paint it because I couldn't find any other white paint, but once I covered the whole thing in shiny sealer, I don't think it looks too bad! The petsitting key-rack is holding up so far! Haven't lost anybody's keys yet at least. I haven't actually used the other one yet.

What sealer did you use? Hopefully a non yellowing polyurethane. you did a nice job on this. I learned a great deal by painting things like this, moved on to benches and boxes, and finally to canvases. Keep up the good work!

I just used Mod Podge... the glossy kind. We'll see if it lasts! If not, I figure the entire project was essentially free, as I just used scrap wood and leftover paint.

I used some sealant that yellowed so bad I was horrified about a year or so later. Mod Podge should be great. I use delta ceramcoat exterior interior polyurethane. I swear by it I have pieces that I made when my children were small and they look just as good now so it's just a recommendation. It can take a beating if you decide to do something that is high traffic.
