SillySally's thread was kind of getting a little off topic, and since it seems like there are a bunch of people trying to eat healthy and/or lose weight right now I thought this might be a helpful thread. Plus it seems like we have some members who really know their stuff on this nutrition shiz
![]() I always have questions, but of course now that I want one to ask and start the thread off I got nuthin ![]() So somebody else ask a question and get it started!

One of my favorit things is Potatoes with a herb quark sauce. (Quark is kinda like greek yohgurt, but its not. lol. You can get it at whole foods.) Soups are also awsome! (My favs. are Minestrone, Potatoe, and mushroom) Risotto is good any day, Lasange! I LOVE lasange. Without meat though If ou need a recipe, I can send you one. I have so many more recipes ^^

I am still eating some fish and shrimp, but I've given up everything else meat. It's been a week, and my Mom is still pissy as all hell with me. I have a huge list from the back of Skinny Bitch that is suggestions for meatless (and often dairy free but I'm not going that far) brands that they like. They say there is enough meat free stuff out there that is gross. I haven't been able to go grocery shopping yet to see what I can find to try, but it's nice to see that even non vegetarian people like the meatless stuff. Few people at work suggested a few restaurants in town to try out veggie burgers at and I'm kind of excited.

Theres enough yummy meals out there that you don't even need meat substitutes! I can't really think of anything where I would need them ^^ this one is similare to the recipe I make: I add some chopped onions and peppers to my mix though. 1 c. oatmeal (quick cooking) 1 c. wheat germ 1 c. whole wheat bread crumbs 1 c. cashews, grounded finely 1 c. carrots, grated 1 tbsp. pepper 2 tbsp. garlic powder 3 tbsp. soy sauce 2 c. water Mix first 3 ingredients together in large pot. Add cashews and carrots. Stir, then add rest of ingredients using your hands. Squeeze until they hold together. Form patties and bake on an oiled baking pan at 350 degrees for 15 minutes on each side. Serve on roll with catsup and mustard, etc.

I have on and off over the past few years, never stuck because I really like meat
![]() I think the biggest issue is getting enough protein, though it can be done with nuts and tofu and stuff like that. I usually still ate fish so I ended up eating a lot more tuna. If you like veggies you could make veggie sandwiches (feta, bell peppers, cucumbers, onion, yes I'm stealing some of this from BP :P) and there are a lot of soups that can be vegetized. I love black bean soup, and that could help with protein as well I think. |

I can't help with the meatless stuff, but good luck! I think I like meat too much even though we've limited our red meat intake and eat mostly lean meats regularly. I'd love to eat more tofu, but I'm finding I can't cook with it very well.

The ones that I can think of off hand that are moderately numbered as far as calories go are; blueberries, strawberries, apples, bananas, raspberries. Mangoes have a ton of cals in them. It's a bummer because I loooove them, but if I do slice one up, it's so I can eat it over the course of a couple days, unless I'm going to work extra hard that day. Avocados also have a ton of cals- so when I do have some, I split them in half and sometimes even quarter them.

I read 'Skinny Bitch' by Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin over the past few days. I've always liked meat.. and now I'm really turned off. I did have fish and seafood today.. but I don't think I can look at much else for a while or ever.
My family is hugely non supportive and tried to come up with reasons why I shouldn't eat pretty much anythign on the planet (helpful). The book has reasons for not eating a lot more, but I can still live with cheese, and having eggs in stuff, etc. I've been adding chick peas to my salad, adding nuts to my lunchbox. The non supportiveness just also isn't helping how I feel.. I'd like to look at some meatless alternatives this weekend. There's a vegetarian restaurant in town (I know the owner she's a family friend) and their dishes with mock chicken have always been lovely..
