Today one of Sal's best play buddies (Diamond a 2yr old beagle/ACD mix) lunged at a guy on a bike and nipped him. My friend had her on a leash but was talking on the cell phone and didn't have her under complete control.
The guy was really mad and cursed at my friend while he demanded her contact info which she gave. His "injury" was a scratch and didn't draw blood. How much trouble is she in? How much trouble is her dog in? What should she do?

A dog bite is a dog bite . It's her fault and I do hope there's a good ending !

She should have taken a picture of the scratch. It is her fault...no question about it. She may get a warning. The guy may not pursue it if he calms down. I hope she doesn't get in trouble and I hope she does something about her dog.

TBH, I think the best thing for her to do immediately is to A sign the dog up for training classes and B contact an attorney.

Gonzo had to be quarentined for 10 days and we were fined for a minute bruise on our neighbor's leg... that the neighbor received whilst chasing him with a shovel around our front yard. D:
Basically, people can screw you over for ANYTHING that your dog does, if they're assy enough! I would recommend desperate apologies, explanations, and reassurance that the dog is going to training classes.
