Exclamation Please help Majlo !

An innocent dog needs your help ! Please take the time to sign this petition and spread the news about Majlo, before he is unjustly KILLED by the Norwegian police !!!

------------------
Petition description:

Majlo is a sweet and gentle dog who has never harmed anyone. Still he is confiscated and ordered killed by the police of Norway, and has been held in a secret place since February 2009. His family haven't seen him since he was taken away. They are claimed for 500 dollars to see their own dog, in addition to the 250 dollars they pay each week for his imprisonment. Their crime: Not knowing that the breed was banned in Norway when they came over from Sweden, where the breed is legal.

Although the law offers banned breeds to leave the country with their owners, the police insist on Majlo being killed instead. A behaviour test on Majlo proves that his temper is very good, but it has become a question of prestige to the police to take his life. Now it is up to the court to decide Majlo's fate. The trial will be held in december. Please tell them how wrong it is to kill an innocent dog and deprive a family of their beloved friend, just to make an example!
-------------------

Majlo is a loving pit bull who until recently lived happily without incident with his family in Sweden. That is until Majlo's family moved to Norway unaware of the Breed Specific Laws there. Now the Norwegian police have Majlo in a cold, dark kennel and they want to kill him. There is a picture of Majlo on the petition site. Look into his eyes and PLEASE take a moment to sign these petitions. Even better, please take a second to write to the police department.

HOW YOU CAN HELP MAJLO:

1. Sign the petitions at :
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/petition/816719846
www.opprop.no

(note: the text on petition no. 2 is in Finnish ! But all you need to do is give your name, e-mail and location (only country required) under "Signer oppropet!" in the upper center of the page - cream coloured box, type in the code that's shown in the right box, and click on ”Signer”. The main fields are marked in english, so you can't miss them.)

2. Send an e-mail to the Norwegian police : [email protected] Att.: Christian Budsberg Pettersen

3. Send an e-mail to the Minister of Justice: [email protected]

All you need to do is send mails with the heading ”FREE MAJLO”, or, for more impact, personalize your mail – tell them they have no right to kill an innocent animal.

4. Join the facebook group called ”Redd Amstaffen Majlo”, which currently has over 35,000 members, all in support of Majlo. Here you can also find a detailed background story about Majlo.

5. Contact the Norwegian tourist office and threaten to boycott Norway. An outline for such a mail, together with the contact information, has been provided by Roxyrock

6. TELL ALL YOUR FRIENDS TO DO THE SAME !

That is so sad and so wrong! Those bustards! I'm afraid I can't sign anything that I can't read...is the problem. But I will try emailing them.

Thank you for being concerned for Majlo ! He needs all the support he can get !

Noticed I might have explained that awkwardly though - the first petition (that's to say, the first link) is sponsored by the Canadian voice for animals, so this one IS in English. There is also a picture of Majlo here, and a link leading to the CVAF homepage dedicated to Majlo (with more pictures, and a complete background story on his case).
The second petition is handled directly in Norway, but as already mentioned, the fields are marked in English, so it's easy to sign it.

I did send an email, expressing my disgust over this incident. However, I have always been skeptical about the effectiveness and validity of online petitions. I mean, these are not real, signed names on the petititions. They can easily be faked, for one problem. So, I looked it up to see what Snopes, for one, had to say:

snopes.com: Internet Petitions

I do hope that this dog isn't killed and can instead be sent back to Sweeden to be cared for by friends or family of the owners...or adopted by someone else. It's certainly unjust and cruel what the gov. in Norway is proposing with regard to this dog and his owners.

I understand the problem with online petitions, and you have already done a lot (!) for Majlo, by sending in a mail.

This particular petition is, however, sponsored by the Canadian Voice for Animals, a well respected organization. It is of my understanding that the petitions (both of them) will be presented at the trial in december.

Majlo's story is very complicated - his trial in december will be his second (!) trial. When he was first taken by the police in february, the owners had taken the case to court. Almost 25,000 people had signed the declaration to free Majlo, together with 2,500 people on the first petition for Majlo. The owners won the case and Majlo was permitted to leave the country together with his owners. But the police have appealed the verdict ! They insist that the dog should be killed, although he has never harmed anyone and although his temper is fully stable ! The police in Norway apparently have nothing better to do than to kill innocent dogs ! They have also refused to pay back the costs of the trial, so this is all a matter of prestige and money as far as the police are concerned. This is what makes Majlo's case even more important. Quoting CFVA, Majlo has "become a symbol of the injustice that allows innocent family dogs to be killed, only because their breed is used in illegal dogfights, while the criminals taking part in this abusive sport, seldom or never are accused".

If the police have proven anything by all this, it's that there is no justice in the justice system of Norway. The petitions helped Majlo during his first trial. Majlo's trial in december will be his second and last one, and I am convinced that the petitions will help him again. If you have done even one of the steps listed above, you have already greatly increased Majlo's chances. So once again, thank you for caring about Majlo !
