We have had Bailey for about 4 days now and until yesterdsy he was perfect!
We got home from work and he had torn up a rug, some Blinds, and the door frame. What should I do to get him to not rebel so much, we do work a normal 8 hr day, but when we get off work we go strait home and go for about a hour walk, we play in the park across the street. He will not chew on a chew toy or a rope. Please help with any advise you can. I don't want to even think about taking his back to the shelter, He fits right in at our house, we love him greatly! :)

Oooh, sounds like Bailey has some boredom/separation anxiety issues.

The best way to control the destructiveness for now is to crate him when you leave. Don't just put him in the crate for 8hrs all at once, start by having him sleep in it at night, and get used to it, and then use it during the day. It'll not only make him feel more secure, but it'll keep him from chewing up everything.

Give him lots of chew toys, kongs stuffed with goodies, and the such to keep him occupied.

Also, turn on the TV when you leave so it's not just an eerie silence. (My dog hates silence, so he 'sings' to himself when it's quiet in the house)

Facez, if you'll notice, especially in the replies to your questions, we try to be constructive and supportive here, and most importantly, unprejudiced and compassionate.

Okay, Bailey's Pet ~ back to your problem.

Our Shiva did her best to live up to her namesake, Shiva, the Great Destroyer (Charlie's name choice) for quite awhile. It earned her a spot locked in the laundry room whenever we weren't home.

I made sure there weren't any power cords where she could get to them, all the laundry stuff was out of reach and out of her line of sight, put some old rugs out there that she could either lay on or mangle and she had her own little rumpus room. Whenever we found something she'd destroyed in the house, we'd show it to her, tell her she'd been naughty, and put her in the laundry room for 10 minutes or so. They're smart; they know what they've done when you show it to them! After a few weeks, she really, REALLY wanted to be able to stay in the main part of the house with Bimmer (and later Kharma), so she straightened up.

Pick a room you can dog-proof, like a laundry room or a mud room, and let that be Bailey's room while you're gone. A radio (safely out of reach) isn't a bad idea, either, and try getting Bailey a treat ball and/or a Kong toy that can be stuffed with treats to give him something to do.

You might want to try (sorry) getting up earlier and taking him for a good walk/run before you leave for work.

Have you started working on some obedience training with him? It'll make him think, strengthen the bonds between you, and make him easier to handle.

Keep us posted on Bailey's progress! And remember, at a year old, Bailey's still got a lot of puppy in him, so give him time and he'll grow up some. He'll probably always be playful, being part AmStaff and Boxer, but he'll learn some common sense about it and develop some manners. Promise.

~~lol~~~ sorry
Its not funny...this isn't the first time you've said this unneccessary crap...if you're gonna make stupid discriminatory comments regarding specific breeds instead of trying to fight the bull**** that these dogs face, then you really don't belong here..and I suggest you go find yourself another forum where some more ignorant and uneducated people will support your breedist attitude because this is definately not the place!

Hi Facesz Of Death,
Please try to be more factual in your posts concerning dogs. You are wading in a very touchy subject. If you post negative dog information please note your source or we will tend to not believe you and question your intentions for the statement.
