I've had 3 purebred dogs, a Dachshund, a Beagle, and a Lab, the Lab and Dach were pretty much as expected, but the Beagle, Farfel, was something else. He was a field type, not the dainty kind I see now almost exclusively, but a 38 pound "tough guy". His first vet called him, "The Screamer", as he made all kinds of noises that would start as soon as he walked in the door. The second called him "The Scrapper" for his habit of getting into fights with bigger and younger dogs, often in his waiting room. If a dog tried to push him around, he was ready to go.
Not a cuddler at all, he stiffened up if you held him, but he loved to play tug of war, and to wrestle. His constant yelling made him a non-favorite dog in every neighborhood I lived in.
