I've decided 2010 will be the year I stop procrasinating and finally get involved in agility training with Duke.:)

We've had a good year in the Obidience and Rally Obidience atmohpshere and I finally feel, after two years of work, that Duke's ability to recover from going over threashold, and stress tolerance has gotten to a level where he can enjoy, and be successful at agility trials.

I've just found a few DVD's/ books I'd like to review before narrowing down where to take lessons, and whether or not to do group or private but I was wondering what everyone thinks of the DVD's/ books I've been reviewing and am getting ready to order ( but Id like some Chaz imput first:)).

-2 x 2 Weave Training- DVD set- Susan Garret ( I audited two agility camps at Say Yes Dog Training, and deffiently want this DVD set)

-Foundation Agility Training- DVD Greg Darret (It's a bit expensive, but I think I'd rather start off on the right foot from the get go)

-All About Agility- Jacqueline O'Neil (It's relatively inexpensive, and recieved good reviews on amazon.ca)

Lastly I found two books which recieved good reviews detailing massage and flexibility training (does anyone have any other recommendation on the topic?)

-Body work for dogs- DVD -Lyn Vaughan and Deborah Jones

-The healthy way to stretch your dog- Sasha foster and Ashley foster

By the way did I mention I'm super excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for any imput,

I hate announcing goals because I don't like not achieving them - but I think we may try and qualify. I have no doubt that we would NOT be competitive at that level, but I think it would be incredibly fun to just go. We've gotten one Q in a qualifier (of the four we've done), but it was for this year's. I'm kind of thinking we may be able to get the needed Q's.

We've got one CPE trial already entered for December, and then I think I am going to all-out focus on USDAA (which I prefer anyway).

I know we have CPE, NADAC, and AAC people here - does anyone else do USDAA?

We're training Susan Garrett's 2x2 method, and she's really 'getting it'. :) I'm so happy with how well she's doing.

Here are what clips I've got so far. (Days 1, 3, and 4. Day 2 was a bad day for both of us, so we didn't really work her, and I didn't video.)

Day 1:
YouTube - Psyche 2x2 Training - Day 1

Day 3:

Day 4:
YouTube - Psyche 2x2 Training - Day 4

None for today yet. I've had her out for one VERY short session, but I'll video her later session.

I don't exactly know where I should move forward to after yesterday, so I did the same thing today, and will figure it out before her next session.

Enjoy! I'll keep you all posted on her training, and I'll get videos daily... Just no guarantee they'll be up on the same day.

Well keely and I hve only just really started in agility and she is only doing a few single bar jumps and the tire jump... Just VERY basic..

Anyway, dad was watching us and keely was performing wonderfully and I got really excited and dad being to downer he is was all ike "I dont see what the big deal is, its not like its hard y ou just tell her to do it and she goes over, Blah blah blah! "

And so I told HIM to bring her thru the course. OMG it was hilarious.. She didnt go over one jump and didnt do the tire.. She just went around... It was ALL dads fault too.. He just wasnt doing it right.. So I guess my handling doesnt suck as much as I though:p Dad ended up getting frustrated so I told him to leave.. :rofl1:

So, Zoey's doing great. We didn't trial much this summer, sadly, since I was working, and didn't have weekends off, but with the trials we did get to, we made success. Zoey's first trial of the season at 16 inches was awful, so she was lowered down to 10 inches in specials. With that, she's doing GREAT! Her last trial of the year was really good - no Q's, but I don't care - and I'm very excited to work on crosses, handling, and focus this winter, and then see how we do next year.

As for Psyche, my little wonder dog, she's doing AMAZING! She's now doing sequences, including front and rear crosses, her a-frame isn't quite full height yet, and her dog walk's still lowered, she does the full teeter with a nice 2o2o that I can run past her on, and she's doing really well with her 2o2o on all of the contact equipment.

Her distance work is coming along VERY nice, and so is her... everything! I know, I know, I'm bragging, but I love how much this dog LOVES to learn!

She hasn't started weaves yet, but we're hoping to soonish. (She turned a year old the first week of October) She's going to be doing the 2x2 method, and a friend and I will be watching the DVDs together, plotting, and then she's going to help me out. (she's the trainers daughter at our agility club, and runs an amazing sheltie).

Anywho, that's what's going on. We're hoping to have Psyche and Zoey both trialing next year, and also my mom's dog Tink, since mom got a job with all weekends off (YAY!) and I'm going for a job where I'd get weekends off...

:D We're doing well, if I do say so myself.
