It's a dog's life
Mikey's gone off to a new home

At Christmas both Nanook ended up at the local shelter while I was away on holidays. Steve was able to pick Nanook up right away but didn't have the cash to get Mikey and wasn't able to borrow it. I guess cuz it was the holidays.
We had been looking for a new home for him for quite awhile and Steve thought maybe it would be best for him if he stayed at the SPCA and we let them find a new home. He and Nanook had been fighting for almost two years and we had to put them all in a crate. Mikey just wasn't getting the attention he needed. Neither of us really had the heart to leave him there though. If we wanted to put him in a rescue we could find better ones!
When I got back from my holidays I went to go get him thanks to a loan from Nikki but he had developed kennel cough and I wasn't able to pick him up. He was in quarantine and I couldn't bring him home to my other dogs.
So we had to wait over two weeks for him to get out of quarantine. Things really seemed to be working against us. I had gotten my maternity paid so sent Nikki's money back. Then things happened so I had to use that otherwise while Mikey was in quarantine. I had almost no support from my friends except Nikki (and Mit) my mom and sister.
We ended up getting snowed in for a couple days, the days I was supposed to go get him of course, bah. It wasn't a good time.
But we did manage to spring him and of course he was thrilled. We were happy to have him safe and almost at the same time someone emailed me about an old ad I had put on a local forum about him.
The woman wanted him for her grandma and the whole situation sounded perfect.
So after a bit of schedule juggling I took him out there earlier this week.
It was ideal. The woman (and her son who was visiting) fawned all over him. She had pictures of all her old dogs around the house. She lives on 10 acres about 45 minutes from me. He'll be the only dog and he'll never really be alone for more than an hour. Most of the time when she has to go into the city she'll take him with her. They'll go for walks together but most of the time he'll just be with her. I told her he loves to cuddle and she said that was perfect. She's lonely and wants the company and misses having a dog cuz her GSD X passed a few months ago.
Mikey's tummy must have been upset from the car ride because he pooed on their carpet and was I glad he did! Because it showed me how they reacted and I couldn't have asked for more. They just said he was upset and it was easy to clean up. Her son took him outside and Mikey responded to everything he asked.
I hadn't really planned on leaving him there at the first meeting but it had just gone so well that I did. He was probably a bit upset when I first look but he had been snuggling up to them while I was there so I'm sure he's quite content by now.
They said I could visit whenever I wanted so I'm going to give him a couple weeks to settle and then I'll stop by.
I really think it's the best for him. I got home and told Steve that was probably the best thing we had ever done for Mikey other then adopting him up in Terrace.
They don't even have cats there which will be nice for him. He's afraid of cats! And Nanook won't be able to terrorize him. Even in their crates she would try and intimidate him from across the room. I just really think this is the best thing for him. We miss him of course. But I'll be able to see him and hear about him.
So that's what's up with Mikey. I haven't been on the forum much because I just need a break. There's just ... too much ... just too much in general. I never thought it would get to me but it has. I still stop by but haven't posted in awhile. Do some mod things here and there. It's all good. I check my PMs but I guess no one has missed me
Off to bed I am.
