Cat lovers come out of the closet! I dogged Chaz enough to rename this with CAT in the title.
I suspect that many of us dog lovers also harbor a much maligned tendancy to also love cats. This where you can get yer cat schwerve on!
I was a cat guy before I was a dog guy...I'm not a foo-foo cat guy, I've never shown cats or even been to a cat show, I just like them. I grew up with one, but since I've been on my own at 18 (16+ years), I've never spent more than a month without having a feline companion.
All of my cats have always been rescues or strays. I did buy one at a pet store (Buddy the Tiger) because he was the last one and looked lonely (I'm normaly not sappy like that).
I have 3 cats. Lotta Pussy is a Maine Coon mix that my wife and I got shortly after we got married. This cat has lived in Ohio, moved to California, and now is back in Ohio. She has some mental issues but is a sweetie. Moxy Fürvous is her adopted sis, rescued in Cali and is probably close to a full blooded Maine Coon...big, assertive. Striking. Audrey is a short haired tiger I adopted from a rescuer who's group my band contributed a song to for their money-making charity CD. Audrey is a stone cold biyatch, but an awesome cat.
I'm no expert on pure bred cat stuff, but I do know cat behavior/diet/and integration.
Welcome to the ChazPuss Forum!

So you dogged Chaz, huh?
I've had some neat cats in my life, and I miss having one with me now, but even the feral cats around here don't last long with the coyotes.
One of these nights soon I'll start with some cat stories, maybe in chronological order, starting with Gulliver, the traveller, who arrived in California at the airport where my Dad was the resident engineer. Gulliver flew in on a plane load of pot out of Mexico. And that was just the beginning of his travels.

I had cats before I had dogs, so I guess they will always have a special place in my heart. The first cat I had was a Devon Rex who sadly died at the age of 2. I then had a brother and sister from the same litter / they were Cornish Rex but the female *Jessie* looked like she was more Sphynx. We sadly had to say goodbye to her 2 months ago, and to her brother one year ago. Jess was 14 when she went to the Rainbow Bridge. My cats never had a problem with any of our dogs, as they soon let the dogs know who was boss..

Im a die hard cat person, although Im trying REALLY hard since my DH got our puppy to be a dog person now! Of course he works, so Im Mama! Dont get me wrong, I love my Roxy pooch!
I grew up with cats my whole life, so its what I know! I love their independance and how they will snuggle up with you to watch a good movie or if you just need them to be there :) At least that is how my kitties are.
I have two right now. Both were just kinda given to me, or I guess suckered into is a better word. Minnie is a black and white short hair. Her mama was hit by a car when she and her littler mates were only 3 weeks old. I got her and her brother ( Mickey ... yes original I know ) when they were only 4 weeks old. So I got to be mama cat since their eyes had only barely opened. She is my wandering carpet and the most layed back cat you'll ever come across! She can hardly be botherd to even find a patch of sun to lay in. If she feels like laying down she'll just plop over and you have to step over HER cuz she ain't going no where!! She also has a big weight problem now that we've moved to an apt. and she dosn't like going outside here. She is my daughters cat and you can usually find her curled up at her feet on on top of her when she is sleeping.
Then there is Mysti who is my baby! She's a med. long hair grey and white kitty. Her eyes are the coolest. I guess they are golden, but get her in the right light and they are the same color as her fur! She is about 3 1/2 months old now and is FINALLY starting to settle down a little. She is full of spit and viniger and is the complete OPOSITE of Minnie. She is my kitty, cuz no one else in the family can stand her :) But she is my snuggly baby!
The newest baby, of course, is Roxy and she's a good girl. She is my husbands payback for bringing the kitties home w/out asking him first LOL Of course WHO ends up taking care of her???? Ha ha.. not him!!!
But I love all my furbabies!!! :)

I'm a big cat person!!! I love dogs and cats equally:) We've always had cats, right now my husband and I have three.
The ginger one's name is Koko, he's just the biggest suck in the entire world! He looks like a little old man even tho he's only four lol
The long haired brown/black one's name is Snoop. He is actually (believe it or not) Koko's son. My mother in law has his mommy. He's got long hair, although the picture doesn't show it much lol. Snoop thinks he's the boss of the house.
Koko and Snoopy were my husbands when he was still with his ex. She originally kept the cats but when she moved in with her boyfriend she couldn't take them so we took them in. I have loved them since day one!
The grey/black one's name is Joey. My sister in law found him when he was about six months old. There was no owner around and he was a stray. She took him home but couldn't keep him. So we decided to take him. He's very loving as well although you can tell he wasn't loved a lot when he was a kitten.
I cannot imagine my life without cats!

Just to make sure this thread doesn't die...
Here's Moxy Fürvous the Maine Coon (stray we rescued from the Compaq/HP campus in California), deciding what's the most valuable thing to lay in my Les Paul's case:

Here's Audrey, the stone-cold gangsta cat (rescued from the side of the busiest freeway in Cincinnati).

Finally...here's Lotta Pussy...the understated queen of the universe:

Ahem . . . wouldn't Moxy be the MAIN Coon Cat? :D
Audrey could be the twin sister of my Gomez - he even lays just like that.
Lotta appears to be plotting ways to control the world . . .

We were never allowed to have cats growing up because my mom and brother were allergic. Well when I was living in an apartment by myself I was lonely so I went to the humane society looking for a small dog. Well they didn't have any so I brought home Chloe. I now have two dogs who I love dearly. But if the house was on fire and I only had time to save one animal............

Cool... I didn't know this forum was hiding on the board!
Add me to the list of folks who live with a dog but are partial to cats. Our Mickey is the first dog either of us has had in years. My family had a poodle when I was a kid, and I had an Irish setter back in the Seventies. I've had room mates with dogs, but we still always seemed to have cats in the house.
When I got married almost five years ago, my husband realized that I missed having a cat in my life. When I'd moved from FL to WA to be with him, I'd left my senior cat Harlequin (aka Momcat, because she'd been a feral kitten-making machine before deciding to hook up with me, and everyone in the neighborhood just called her "that ol' wild mama cat") with my mother. (I'd already moved her from TN to FL, and she'd hated the trip. Gave me the cat cold shoulder for almost a year afterwards.... I couldn't do that to her again, and Mama, who'd never been a fan of cats, had fallen hard for her, even warming tuna for her: "But, Carolyn, she doesn't like it out of the refrigerator." LOL) Jamus planned to get me a kitten for my birthday from the shelter, but fate intervened. His oldest daughter -- the girls live with their mom -- had a cat, and, when they moved into an apartment, her mom said the cat had to go. Knowing that the child was worried about the cat, whom she'd had from kittenhood, Jamus asked me, "Hon, would you mind if I got you a 'used' cat instead of a kitten?"
Of course not!
So we took Minnie in. She'd been an indoor/outdoor cat, but stayed out more than in (at least they'd had her spayed,) and she had become all but feral. As we say down south: wilder'n a bessie bug! Jamus told me that, when he'd still been with his ex, he always thought the cat hated him, but, after moving in with us, she soon decided that, while Mama Human does the food and litterbox duties, Daddy Human must have hung the moon. She adores him! Me? Besides being the cat servant, I'm good for pouncing on in bed to demand ear-luvin's. If I play possum, she head-butts me or gently paws at my face until I give in and rub her ears. She knows I'm always ready to pet her, but she loves playing the game.
She's a funny cat, a sworn hater of dogs, and we -- and the dog -- definitely get along with her on her terms. Except for her addiction to ear-luvin's, she's less demonstrative than most cats I've known, and I've lived with some pretty stand-offish felines. But when she does decide she wants petting and attention, there's no escaping her! Not that we want to.... Most of the time, though, she just wants to snooze, preferably in one of her hidey-holes. What amazes us is that when my husband, who's diabetic, is about to have "sugar trouble," Minnie hops up on him and starts making bread on his tum. She knows before he does, and she won't stop until he's feeling better. We call it "kitty CPR." She's getting on in years, now, and she's definitely lost her kittenish figure. We call her the Plumpalotapuss! Here's a little animated gif I made of some of my favorite Minners pics (a couple of them, I'm afraid, were taken with my first digital camera, which was awfully lo-res):

Our first pet was a cat. Patches was born from a stray cat under our deck. I worked for 6 months to get him to trust me and come up to me. Well worth it. I brought him inside, had him neutered and decided he would be indoor only. He is now 7 and I love him to pieces, he's my first baby. He's black and white with mint green eyes.
Then a cat at my husbands work had a litter, so we brought in Lucky. She is female (and has been spayed), she also is indoor only. All the guys at my husbands work chipped in and had the mama cat spayed, so no more litters. Lucky is now 4 years old and rules the roost. She doesn't even let the dog bully her. She's also black and white with yellowish eyes. She's a tad overweight, cause she loves her treats.
Last year, someone dropped a pregnant cat and of course I started feeding her (she was solid black, and just a sweetheart). We named her Sassy and when I took her to the vet, he was concerned that she was too young to have the litter, so we decided to "take" the kittens (please don't bash me on this, I couldn't keep the kittens, and our local shelter puts many to sleep everyday, so they would've died anyway). So at the same time I had her spayed, so we wouldn't have this problem again. At the time we were letting her in and out of the house, with the intention of making her an indoor only cat like our other two.
Before we could get her in, the neighbor's dog next door (who just runs loose, but that is another issue) ran her in front of a car and she was killed. Never again, will I allow a cat of mine outside.
Now we just adopted a lab/border collie mix (we've had her 2 months), who is 4 months old. She keeps everybody in the house on their toes :)
Cats are definetly more easier than dogs, but I love them both just the same.

I love this thread. And I love seeing all the photos!!!!!!!!!
We have 5 cats. All fixed since 1 year old
Tommy - our first and oldest. Rescued from H/S. He is now a she thanks to a stone stuck in his urethra. He is 14
Hollie - Xmas gift from brother. She is 9
Dharma - She is 8. When I moved form STL to SLC I had to stop at Wally World. A man had a box of free kittens outside. I said no on the way in and on the way out I peeked, grabbed and ran to the car before I changed my mind. She is our orange (red) tabby with real long hair. Named her Dharma for "a time and a place for a reason".
Tiger - 8 Other half started to feed a stray cat. One day he opened the door and well, she never left.
Gizzie is a pure persian. She is 4 white with red tip and blue eyes. She is deformed and breeder couldn't paper her. Breeder gave her to a girl I work with whose son was too young for an animal. So, I brought her home.
My cats bring me so much peace - when I need to relax I go to their room (yep they have their own room at our house). My furbabies aren't spoiled at all!!!!!!!!!!!LOL No, not spoiled, just blessed

That is so cute, Akaspaddero! Our cats have their own room too!! My husband built a knee wall at the door to their bedroom. This gives them access to the whole house, but the dog can't get in their room. Now, when they've had enough of the dog, they can go to the "Sadie Free" room. I must admit, I go there to get away from the dog too, sometimes. ;)
We also built a screened enclosure off their bedroom window. Now they can go out and get fresh air, but I still know their safe.

WOW - a knee wall at the door and a screened enclosure - I might just move in! - LOL.
What great ideas. I have to tell my other half about that. We just use a babygate at the entrance of their room. And being about 5 foot tall, it is sometimes hard for me to get over - lol

Update on the screened enclosure: it now has a hole in it about the size of my dog Sadie's head. "I just wanted to give them licks and kisses" was the look Sadie gave me when I found it. Of course, lots of hissing and growling going on :) My husband has fixed it temporarily until this weekend, then he's going to put some kind of wire (like chicken wire) around the bottom half, to keep Miss nosey Sadie out. The cats pouted all evening, you know giving you the "how dare the DOG come in my enclosure" look.

This is my first post on Chaz, after lurking for quite a while. I have 3 cats, and adore all of them...I only had one dog, a standard Schnauzer named Rosie, growing up. I aquired the 3 kitties while living alone throughout the duration of my first teaching position. When I married my husband, he had 3 dogs...one of which was PTS on Dec. 4th of this year. So, now, I'm an "equal opportunity" cat and dog lover...with my 3 cats, Fergus, Captain Steuben, and Ripley, and our Golden Retriever, Melvin, and black lab/chow/Rott mix, Puppy. They're great dogs, and the cats have adapted well to them. Ask me how the kitties feel when we bring home our basset puppy in June!

I have three cats also. I had five, having taken in my late mother's cats as well. I lost two cats this year, they were age 21 and 19. I also work toward rescue of cats and right now I have a litter and a mom. I'm a real nutball, I have a special room in my basement that is heated in winter and air conditioned in summer, just for situations like this one. I am not only a dogaholic, but I am a cataholic. I am hopeless. :lol-sign:
I can tell you without a doubt my cats run Tosca's life. heheh.
P.S. I am also a former teacher. Are you sure you aren't me? (checking.....lol).

I'm still teaching. When I got married, I took a position in my husband's locality...
What did you teach? I teach special education...moderate/severe/profound disabilities in a segregated school setting. Most of my kids this year have multiple disabilities, and all are on the autism spectrum. I love this profession!
It's nice to see so many "multi-categorical" pet owners on here, too. I really love both cats and dogs equally.

I taught high school English for 8 years, then went back to school and switched to a software engineering career. I still get to use my teaching skills now and then, corporate America loves to steal teachers. Your field of teaching requires real talent and commitment. I tip my hat to you.
I was a cat person for many years and wasn't able to have a dog because my work lifestyle, travel, odd house, etc., just wouldn't have been fair to a dog. Now that I have more time and work on my own, I am finally able to have my dog and what a dog she is! I adore her. But I surely do adore my kitties as well and always will.

I'v got 1 cat named Shadow. She just truned 1 on the 1st of July! We got her from a friend who fond the litter and mom in a stone wall by a grave yard. They couldn't chatch the mom but we fell in love with the runt, Sahdow:lol-sign: .
I only have three cats but my roommate has eight of his own. Then there are the kittens his cat had and the one that came with the house we are renting. So there are a total of 20 cats. Guess its a good thing I like cats :D
We are trying to find homes for most of them if any one near Camdenton, Mo wants or know anyone who would like a cat. They range from long to short hair. The one that really needs a home does not get along with other cats but loves dogs and little kids.
