Do you teach your dog hand signals? I kind of taught my dog to sit and down and stay and up. She doesn't remember then sometimes

Yep, gotta love the hand signals. They are usually easier for the dog to obey to because there isn't any confusion about them. You just have to make sure that your dog can tell the difference between one and the other. When you teach a new command use a hand signal and a voice command, then phaze out the voice command so it is just the hand signals. Really works great for field training so you don't have to strain your voice! If she doesn't remember them then she must not be 100% sure what you are expecting of her. Practice them throughout the day until you are sure she gets it. Give her lots of praise and lovin when she gets it right. Consistency is key!

Jake has been taught all his commands with a corresponding hand signal - and - as it was pointed out to me - is worth while in case he looses his hearing down the road, I don't need to re-train him. However, my hand-signals are a far cry from the 'standard' hand signals that most people are taught to use - largely because I didn't know any better at the time. I just noticed when we brought him home that he'd watch my hand and used it to my advantage.

Love hand signals. There's a hand signal for sit and also for stay... most of the times for sit, I just use the hand signal and he does it.

Also if I tell him to lie down and use the hand signal for stay, and he down-stays lol :D

Yup, the girls know signs!! I'm learning American Sign Language so I taught them how to sit and come in ASL. I'm also learning Russian, so I'm going to teach them some commands in Russian too. They have a very wide vocabulary LOL!
