My first Manchester, Janet arrived here pregnant--unbeknownst to me and the lady I got her from. Janet kept getting bigger and bigger and bigger. Now mind---Janet was a 10 pound Manchester! Eventually I measured her waist------22 1/4 inches!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She ended up having 7 puppies!!!!! I was shocked that her waist was the same size as a persons!! Thought she was really gonna explode. The only way she could trot was to move her legs out sideways, lol.

I am going with a litter of 5.
I will go with 5 as well :)
When my Newf was pregnant she was huge...I thought she was going to have at least 11 pups :D she had 7 very large pups. One other Newowned by a friend of mine, was told by her vet that her dog was not pregnant...the ultrasound didn't even show any pups. She did not show at all, and gave birth to a very to 5 pups. The breeder "knew" her dog was pregnant even if the ultrasound showed no pups...but, you would never have known she was by looking at her. My Newf looked like a marshmallow! :)

the suspense is killing me! Is it almost time? I'm nervously pacing back and forth. I keep coming on here everyday to see if she had her pups yet. I'm sure you're WAY more excited though than nervous. Is this your first litter? Is that the correct way to phrase it?

Hi you sound like me LOL, she is on her 58th day today, so the pups could be born soon, I'm both excited as well as nervous I just want her to have a easy time and for everyone to be healthy, this is my first litter with my dog, I have helped whelp other litters, so I guess I'm more worried this time as she is my little girl, If I can I will post when she goes into labour, fingers crossed

Poor little gurl (Mom and Doggy alike!)... just waiting and wondering... she's probably wondering what's happening to her little bod. It's so magical when they start whelping. She'll be concerned, worried, and looking to her Mamma for reassurance. It's such a sweet time...

It's so... magical... that's the only word I can find. The Mamma is contracting over and over again and the puppy starts to emerge in a gooey blob and all of a sudden pops out and she seems very surprised like WHAT WAS THAT?! But her Mommy instincts kick in and she starts licking and licking and stimulates the puppy and removes it from the sack. Sometimes, you need to assist in removing it from the sack. What's really rough on them is when they've already had some puppies and she's licking them (to stimulate and clean) while having contractions for the next and knows at one point she needs to abandon the ones she's been tending to to take care of the one she just birthed. Bubbatd would always take the newly born puppies and place them in a pile close to their Mamma's face but let her know she's there to "watch things" while she takes care of the one coming out. It's such a sweet time...
ETA: and their sweet little "mews" as newborns are the best!!!

Sob, I miss it so !!! It's such a rewarding experience when you know you're helping out. Momma gets so tired and appreciates your towel drying, cord tieing , a drink of water, etc. And then when it's all over, her fresh bedding with her new babies cuddled up and with a big sigh, she relaxes.
