How exactly does your schedule work with your dog? When you wake up what do you do,(go to work, go to school etc.)and in the afternoon. So like your times of feeding playtime and everything for your dog.
Also if you can help me resolve a problem that's been in my mind for eternity! I REALLLLLLLLY WILL APPRECIATE IT IF YOU DO.OK so the problem is:
Akiro my new bought puppy will arrive at the 19th of august and my school starts at the 28th of august?!And my school hours are from 8:30 to 3:00.What I am sooooo and very afraid of is that what will he do during those hours? No else is at home(mom will be at work and brothers at school too).I was thinking to leave him in the house with one of those dog blockers.Or in his kennel until i get home.I really am afraid because i think hell get bored and not give him enough attention. Then he'll act up and whn i let him out hell chew on things and get mad.Can someone please help me besides the solution to bring him into dog daycare?THANKS IN ADVANCE........

Thats going to be rough on the little one. You CANNOT leave a pup for that many hours in a crate, it is absolutely unfair and they will be exceptionally hard to potty train. Can you find a dog walker or sitter that can let the dog out sometime during the day or can you or your mom come home during lunch to let it out?

Well i asked my mom but she said we cant afford to sit it 5 days a week and i wouldnt want to let it cause i think itll get confused on who the rightful owner is.....
I agree. You'll need to have someone come home at lunch and take him out and give him some attention. He can't stay in a crate that long so your best bet would be to get a puppy play pen. How old will he be when you get him? Have you ever housetrained a dog before?

Dogs don't get confused about who their "rightful" owner is. I have been helping my mom by caring for her dog for the past five months and when my mom comes over Katya is overjoyed to see her "rightful" owner. If you spend time with your puppy, feed it, let it out, play with it, train it, it will know you are it's owner.
You're going to have to find someone Akira. I don't really see another option. that's a long time for a young puppy to be alone. It would have been better if you had gotten a puppy when the holidays started so you could start to train it and it could be a little older. it'll be about 8 weeks won't it?

Can kongs, and other toys keep him busy for that long? And whats a puppy play pen?
Kongs and puzzle toys will help but they won't help train him and they won't amuse him forever. I think he'll be a sad puppy at first. A puppy play pen can be an actual play pen if your dog is small but that won't work for long. You could also section off a part of the kitchen of bathroom or somewhere where it's easy to clean for him to live. You are going to have a big mess to come home to!
Dogs also like to destroy things so give him a phone book or big newspaper or something to rip up while you are gone.

I posted, but it didn't come up . How old is your pup ??? What did the owners say when they learned of your situation e.g. no one home with your pup ??? I put loving pup wanting families like yours on the waiting list when breeding. Is it too late to cancel until you are ready ?? If not, you really have to go above board to see that this baby isn't left in the cracks and either goes to rescue or the HS. Please.... we're here to help !!!

You should not get a dog at this time in your life. Getting a puppy is THE EXACT SAME THING as bringing a human child into your life, as far as responsility. This situation is not right for the puppy, and you are already having the stress of worrying about it before even getting it.
Have the parents of this puppy been health tested? Daschhunds have several health issues. Can't remember them at the moment, but the parents should have been tested. Are you getting a lifetime guarantee against congenital and heriditary problems? You should get such a guarantee if this is a reputable breeder. If not---then look elsewhere. This puppy could end up costing you thousands and thousand of dollars if it has back problems......unless you opt for putting it down if problems develope.
Please give this some serious thought. Pet finder is no place to get a dog anyway. Maybe you could contact the Daschie parent club and see if they have any adult dogs looking for a home???? You could get a small exercise pen and set up in the kitchen, give it food and water, and it would be quite happy till you got home..or your mother.
The first consideration has to be for the dog. And never get a dog from such a place again! Phaaleease!!

A puppy can only hold his bladder for an hour longer than his age. So if the pup is two months, he can hold it for around three hours.
I think you should hire a dog walker to take him out at least twice while you are gone. Make sure you give him lots of toys to play with and bring him out right before you leave.
I do agree though, this is definitely not the best time to get a puppy.

well guys although u are right. do u really think she is gonna take her puppy back after she just got it. this is just a forum by the way. i agree with all of you this isnt the best time to get a pup, and i would reccomend giving it back or to th rescue or some club, i doubt she'll actually do that and listen.I mean to her this is just a forum, right? i hope im wrong, but i onno. see how she is listening to the puppy playpen but not anything about taking it back. maybe there is something else she can do...lets think. Oh, well u guys said dog walker, excellent, playpen, umm ur in colledge right? cant you come back at lunch to walk him or play with him. i know this will ruin your lunch, but ur gonna have to throw that all away for the pup. it would be in the middle of since you were gone, so three hours till u left him, that should just cut it.
good luck. i hope to hear back from you with what ur gonna do. we are not trying to be mean just want that pup to be happy.

I would ask maybe a family friend, or a neighbor to help you out with this puppy. Your puppy will make alot of messes, and please dont forget, it wont be his fault. Dont yell at it and be angry at him because he wont be able to help it. He's a baby who is going to be stuck home all those hours with no one to work with him or teach him things, including pottytraining.
This is very bad timing for you to get a puppy. The beginning of summer break would have been better, not right before you go back to school. Talk to your mom, convince her you need someone to help with the puppy.

I agree that if you can't really spend the time you need to with new pup it will be best to wait until a later date. If you chhose not to do so and proceed to get the pup, what did you mean by kennel? To me that means like a run or pen outside. If you were going to be gone for 7 hours of the daytime having it outside in a safe place where it could "go" and watch what's going on around it might be ok, rather than leaving it in a room with newspaper or piddle pads to stare at 4 walls. Although puppies do sleep a lot, so it probably won't be awake the entire time you are gone.
Lea, her profile said she's 15. She's just starting high school.
Akiro: I know you're excited about getting a puppy and you seem to want to do the best by it, you've shown part of that just by coming on here and asking for help. But, the fact remains that you arranged to get a puppy at what is probably the absolute worst time for you and it. Starting a new school year is going to be hectic, which I'm sure you are already aware of. And you're going to be, what, a freshman? sophmore? in high school...that is going to take up so much of your time. You want an idea of a schedual? First, realize that this puppy is probably going to wake you up MANY times during the night wanting comfort. I didn't sleep much the first three nights I had my dog, and he was a year and a half old when I got him. Second, he's going to need 15 minutes to eat, a walk of *at least* 15 minutes so he can get some exercise and do his business. So you already have to wake up a half hour earlier than usual. If your school schedual is anything like mine was during HS, then you're looking at about 5:00-5:30 as your new wake-up time. I hope you are friendly enough with your neighbors to possibly enlist their help during the day. You're probably going to have to use a service like Critter Sitters or find a doggie daycare place, because this puppy needs more attention during the day than you will able to give it.
Not to mention, as Manchesters already pointed out, that PuppyFind probably wasn't the best choice of places to go to get a dog in the first place. With a rescue or good breeder, you have the option of calling them back and telling them you need to wait. I'm guessing here, but I'm betting PuppyFind is profit driven enough to ignore those who change their minds or situations at the last moment. Please understand, none of us are trying to jump down your throat or make you feel bad that you want a dog. But, I think all of us want you to understand just how much time, effort, and care go into have a dog at all, but most especially a puppy. It really is just like having a child to take of.
Keep us posted and we'll try to help you through the adjustment period. Good luck!

You can put a baby in the playpen or crib for his/her naps diaper on and nap too. You can't do that unless pup is crated. Can't crate pup 24/7 so even if you are sick gotta hall that butt out of bed and go look after pup.
I think since you have the pup coming you will do the right thing and find someone to help out with daily walks. I think it is really hard to ask for help and you did so you really must want the best thing for your new baby. Make sure you post pics. We will help you with any questions you have along the way.
I don't know how every high school structures their lunches, but at mine we were basically in lock-down from the time we got to the school until the final bell rang. There was no leaving for any reason unless you had a note and a call from your parents saying you had a doctor's appointment.

Manchesters, I don't think all the people who advertize on puppyfind are that bad, but yeah, it depends on your views on responsible breeding I guess. But some do have OFA testing etc, they are just more expensive.
To the OP, I pretty much agree with everyone. I checked the ad of your pup, personally I would forget the $100 non refundable deposit and go get your pup somewhere else. $300 for a pup is way too cheap, the parents were NOT tested for genetic diseases, and you may end up with a puppy with chronicle problems that will cost you way more than the deposit you will lose if you cancel your order... Even worse, the people who have him are willing to sell him with a full registration  They are very irresponsible, please don't get your pup there.
For your situation, I agree also that it's not the best time to take a puppy. I personally don't think it's such a big deal to work and have dogs, or nobody would have any, but you need to spend time with a new puppy. If you really go ahead and have one anyway, you can't leave him in a kennel all day, you need to puppy proof a room and leave him in it, with lots of toys, and probably wee pads. Keep in mind that when you leave a pup alone for so long everyday, they will get used to peeing in the house, and housetraining will be much harder. And the pup will be very lonely, and probably cry a lot.

We have a new pup (not by choice) and one of the reason we took this one on is because the kids were home for the summer and the puppy wouldn't be left alone all day. By the time the kids go back to school the puppy will be a little over 4 months old and should be able to hold while they are at school... I hate the thought of keeping them in a puppy room all day while we are at work but I found out last night that just to let him out for an hour he can't be trusted (smack me with the newspaper over the head)>>LOL Anyway, our routine is as follows: up at 6:00 a.m. all 4 dogs out to potty, to the kitchen for breakfast, after that all 4 dogs out to potty again, off to work at 7:30, 3 dogs left out and 1 puppy in the puppy room... Kids get up all 4 dogs left out and then again every couple hours after that, dinner time is 5:15 and then out to potty, out again @ 7:15 and then again @ 8:45, bedtime is 10:00...

Oh and I agree with Manchester 100%, please read her post again if you only briefed through it. You shouldn't get a puppy if it is going to be left alone all day. When we got our first one I had my mom come over 2 1/2 hours after we left for work, I came home at lunch time and the kids came home from school 2 hours after that. You cannot expect a puppy to be left in a crate that long. YOu can try a puppy play pen or a puppy room but I still think that is cruel to leave a puppy all day long with noone home. How lonely can it be with no physical touch...
honestly i don't know how you'll do it : /
i got yoshi at about 4 months old and she wasn't house broken and she had a bladder infection from how she was fixed.
if you can leave school during lunch that would hlep
i graduated 2004 so i don't really have to worry about school anymore.
what i do is i get up two hours before work take a 15 minute shower and then i feed yoshi, take her out, and play with her until i leave. then i come home during lunch and let her out and play with her while i eat lunch. then i go back to work anbd when i get home i take her out play for a while, let her calm down and feed her again. then we laze around all night. she naps most of the time i'm gone though, since she stays up so late :/
