The other night my agility trainer was helping a gal who's dog wasn't sitting very promptly. Then she told of another customer a while back who's dog had so much trouble sitting. The owner would say, "sit." Nothing...."sit".....nothing. "Sit, sit, sit, sit, sit! Darn It! (only it was the swear word for darn it") Then the dog sat. The trainer was trying to figure out why it wouldn't sit when she said, "sit." The dog ONLY sat upon hearing the word, "d*m* it!" LOL. She had to either say, sit sit sit sit sit sit d***it. Or just d***it. What a laugh! :D

Moral of this story: Don't give a command that you can't enforce the FIRST time. Don't give the dog a second chance. Make it happen one way or another the first time. They aren't deaf. (normally) LOL.

It is Aesop's Fables, lol.

Also, once you know for SURE that a dog knows what a command means, NEVER repeat a command. After the initial command, give the dog a correction until the command is performed. Otherwise you just teach the dog to ignore you! Like my Manchesters ignore me, roflmbo.

Oh yeah! I thought that looked kind of funny. LOL. Thanks Manchesters. I'll never forget that one again. There. I fixed it. Gosh, I'm soooo embarrassed. I can't spell worth beans.

Hey, I fixed it on here, but it won't change on the main menu. Grrrr

There ya go . . . a little magic on the title, Dober :)

LOL, that 'dammit' command is pretty handy. Mine freeze in their tracks when they hear it

My bunch answers to some pretty weird commands. Bimmer taught me to use "where are your manners?" or some variant of that instead of "sit." He just did it on his own one day when he was a wild child and I was trying to get him to be still instead of dancing about and trying to kiss me in the face. I asked him where his manners were, and he plopped his little butt down and looked at me and batted those big eyes innocently and that's been our cue ever since. He taught the grrrrls to do the same thing - including the faux innocent act. Of course, they'll also plop down on "park your butt," "put your happy little a$$ down," a snap of the fingers, or a raised eyebrow . . . all accompanied by the appropriate drama

Hey! How'd you do that???? You simply must teach me this magic trick. Well, thanks bunches.

That's pretty funny. I knew a Rott/Lab mix who's owners would say for every command; sit, come, down......"What do we do?" LOL. I don't know how he did it, but he did. ROFLOL!
