Last night was the first night I left Yukon loose, not crated overnight. I puppy proofed the kitchen and entrance way to our front door. He did not chew anything, did not make any noise, and no messes. I can't guarnatee he will be good everynight but at least it is a start. Better than having to clean pee out of the crate every morning.

I am, but also hoping he maintains good behaviour because we have been so frustrated in the past few months. Manchesters leash corrections and firm voice has worked miracles so far. He is even doing less, actually hardly any of the submissive peeing when you atrat working with him. I have my fingers crossed that is for sure.

I wish you good luck. I'm sure he'll get the idea, Yukon sounds like a smart guy.

Smart and stubborn, but Manchesters help has made a load of difference and although I know many disagree with her she sure knew exactly how to regain control over this little monster without hurting him or being aggressive towards him. I would recommend leash corrections to anyone now as it has proven to me to be a worthy tool.

Usually when I go to train this monster he will pee on the floor and not be bothered with the training. Guess what, I worked with him this morning early, and just now and no peeing. He is starting to get the hint, man there are miracles after all. Thank you, for taking the time to phone me and chat with me and explain yourself so well to me, Manchesters. It is worth a million dollars but unfortunately I can only offer a thank you. Also for anyone interested a simply quiet made her doggies quiet on the phone, this is our second phone conversation and for those who say she beats her dogs I heard no yipping or sounds of pain. Just thought I would mention that!

Things are still very good, training well and trying hard. Actually have started asking for some of the commands from a distance. Still have him on a long leash though so I can re enforce the command if he forgets how to listen! lol So far he has been outstanding though. A super good boy and I am so proud of him and all his good boy behaviour.

YAY YUKON!
but i dont see much point in crating, I would hate it. All our dogs have had the laundry for teh first little while in their life :D I cant see me ever using a crate for a dog.

He gets bored overnight and tends to destroy the place so for now it is best to crate him. We shall see what the future brings.

Well, let's see.....why crate....... Hhhmmmmm....maybe because the dogs love their crates? Perhaps to insure their safety if left home alone? To transport them in the car, like to the vet or where ever?
You should see the riot that goes on when I bring the boys in, or when I am crating the girls so I can go to the store. Each dog is jumping up and down, and barking "ME FIRST, ME FIRST, ME FIRST!!!!" They try to shinny up my legs, rofl.
NOW.....the psychology behind the crate. If you put a dog out on a 400 acre field, guess what it is going to do come night? Start digging a den. Have you ever heard of a wild member of the dog family that lays out flat on the ground to sleep? NO! They all dig dens so that they are protected and warm, and secure.
The crate provides the same function. A dog's crate is his/her own special part of the universe. We live enclosed on six sides by our houses......and we feel snug and secure. Same for a dog.
For those of us with multiple dogs, ya gotta do it if going out to make sure there won't be any squabbles with someone getting hurt.
So, there are very good reasons for using a crate. They are kinda like a playpen is for a human baby. In the playpen means not into mischief!!!

Actually he loves going in his crate. His issue is coming out in the morning. He has a fear of coming out. But he is improving daily so in no time he will be ready to be a good boy.

Teddy loved his crate right from the start. We got him at 10 weeks and when we put him in there at night to sleep he was out like a light there was no crying and he slept right through until the morning when he had to go outside. Now he doesn't use his crate anymore because he doesn't destroy things or have accidents in the house anymore. He does have to stay in his room overnight or when we are out. When it is time for him to go to sleep at night he still goes into his crate to receive his goodnight snack lol the door is left open. So despite what some may think, it is not cruel to use a crate.

I rarely use one. I have a harness for my pup in the car, and a tie out cable for shows and competitions. He has a puppy proofed room for the moment, with my kelpie overseeing things:)
