Just wanted to know if any of the trainers out there could help me on this one. We have a 5 month old wolfhound/mastiff cross puppy who finds it very entertaining to ALWAYS harass and go after my older male pug who just doesn't have the stamina to put up with him all the time. The puppy is always mouthing him, jumping at him, trying to pick him up by his tail, barking at him, and chasing him. The pug will play back on occasion, but for the most part he spends his days hiding in small areas where the puppy can't fit i.e under the desk or under chairs. So far I have been using time-outs for the puppy when it gets to be too much or periods of separation so my pug can have a rest in peace. I have just started to introduce more excercise to help him burn off a little more energy. Any ideas? I know he will eventually outgrow this behavior. Is it possible to teach the puppy to leave my pug alone in the mean time?

Your best bet is probably to continue on as you are doing. Can you find something that might distract him from your poor Pug? Even for a little while?
It will let up as he gets older. Bimmer will attest to that, lol, Shiva was a right pest when she was a pup.

Well, since you all know how mean I am, I would use the shake can to throw at him and the EEH EEH KNOCK IT OFF. Works wonders, no harm to the dog. And the can makes a wonderful distraction, rofl. In fact at one time in my life I had about 5 shake cans around the house!

We actually have a shake can that we use for out-of-control barking with the puppy and it has stopped the problem within a few days. I was considering using it for when he plays too rough with my pugs. My senior pug just can't take the constant badgering and rough-housing. My younger b*itch laid down the rules early on, so he never goes near her LOL!!!! :D

Just bounce the can off his butt, which will make him twirl around, and should give the Pug a chance to make a dignified retreat!
