We have transport for this sweet dog to Orlando!

She only has until tomorrow morning! Please help!

Cierra gave selflessly and now she is marked for death tomorrow…
This poor girl came to Liberty County Animal Control severely engorged with no puppies to nurse. When I first met her she sat in her cell, her whole body shaking, and low growls. I did not enter her cell at first because I didn’t know if she was aggressive and I was only there after hours to meet some adopters. The very next day I found out from Animal Control staff that a litter of puppies was found (not Cierra’s) and since they appeared to be only about 2 weeks old they decided to see if Cierra would nurse them. Well, Cierra adopted the litter of tiny babies without a problem.

That weekend my daughter went to Animal Control to meet all of the animals. When she came home she said “Momma, that dog that came in without puppies is the sweetest dog. All she wants is to be loved on. We need to save her.” Since the puppies were too small still, and Animal Control had space, we decided to leave her there for a couple of weeks until the puppies could be adopted out, and then Cierra could go to a rescue or home as well. We didn’t worry about finding homes for the puppies since they were so cute, and one family had already filled out a contract on one of them, patiently waiting for us to let them know when they could pick up their new little family member.

This past weekend I went into Cierra’s cell. She was nursing the babies and while she laid there I softly stroked the side of her face. The whole time I loved on her she looked at me so attentively. She listened to every word I had to say as if she understood it all. All I kept telling her over and over is what a good mommy she is and that she is such a beautiful and loving girl. It brings tears to my eyes just remembering those few moments… The reason it brings tears to my eyes is because all the hope we had for her and her adopted family was brought to an abrupt halt yesterday. Cierra’s puppies were euthanized and Cierra was marked for death tomorrow morning – there’s a big red “X” on her intake sheet… One of the kennel tech’s did not change out the comforter in the turtle sandbox that the little family slept in. The comforter was soaking wet, and the nights over the weekend were cold, causing the puppies to get sick. They finally euthanized them yesterday morning because it appeared that they were suffering… I was told by the other kennel tech that Cierra is now severely depressed, and it is just breaking my heart! She gave selflessly and adopted a whole litter of babies that were not even her own. She cleaned them and took care of them and probably never received love from anyone other than the little she got from us while at Animal Control. Now she is scheduled to die a needless death tomorrow morning.

Can anyone find it in their heart to save this girl? She is approximately 2-3 years old, looks to be a Black Lab, possibly mixed with bully breed. She has no aggression toward humans, but has food aggression toward other dogs – nothing unusual under these circumstances. She has a scar on the side of her face, which I assume may have come from fighting over food at a dumpster. I am pretty sure her life has not been one of love, comfort and leisure; otherwise, she would not feel like she needs to defend her food from other dogs. She is very loving and sweet. Please, someone out there help her!!!

Please contact Petra or Stephanie. They are the onsite rescue workers and they can arrange transport of this dog to you in Orlando.

I could probably help with transportating her if she had a destination to another Chazzer.
