Got this in my email today. I would so foster but living at home I can't.
As many of you probably know, approximately one thousand dogs were recently saved from a Parkersburg, W. Va. puppy mill.
"Once on the scene local authorities were able to convince the property owner to surrender ownership of all 1,000 dogs. The Humane Society of Parkersburg immediately called in United Animal Nations, Best Friends Animal Society, the Humane Society of Missouri and The Humane Society of the United States for assistance. All organizations involved have banded together to assist with the removal of the approximately 1,000 dogs and oversee the emergency shelter where all of the animals will be housed while they await their next destination."
FOHA would like to help, but these dogs will need to go straight into foster homes. The dogs are all supposedly 15 pounds and under and they are the following breeds (in order of how many they have for each breed) : doxies (about 300), toy spaniels, chinese crested; yorkies, poodles; maltese and peeks.
Tomorrow morning, A Forever Home Rescue will be driving to Parkersburg to rescue as many dogs as they can handle. They have also offered to pick up some dogs for FOHA. They will select the dogs that they feel will have a good chance for adoption. These dogs will be ready to go into their new foster homes by Wednesday or Thursday of this week.
We need to know as soon as possible (no later than tonight) how many we can commit to. If you are interested in fostering one or more of these dogs or possibly a litter, please contact Leslie O'brien at lobie7@aol.com or 703 723-1466. If there's a breed preference, let Leslie know.
