Yes, when they are teething you will find blood on his toys. He may be a strong chewer and if so, he may be causing some irritation to his newly empty tooth holes LOL!! He will be fine :)

Yes, they lose blood when the new teeth break the gums. It's totally normal.

When do puppy teeth come out anyway? Does it vary by breed?

Raika's about the same age as your pup, so maybe she'll start losing those needle teeth soon! Seriously...I should post a picture of the damage she's done to my arms!!

One thing I'd like to add here, dont play tug a war with your puppy ever... its so bad for their teeth. Just wanted to let you know what I learned the hard way.

Puppies start loosing their teeth at 4 months and they are usually done with a full set of newbies by 7 months. :D

Let a dog of any age put its teeth on your flesh. The greatest sin a dog can commit is to put its teeth onto or into human flesh. It is most imperative that this not be allowed. I have raised hundreds of pups over the years.....Dobermans, Whippets, and Toy Manchesters, and never once had a problem with mouthy pups, so I know whereof I speak!

Ok........now this is hard to put into writing, but I will make an attempt. All puppies of every breed have a flap of skin under their jaws halfway between the chin and the neck. What you have to do is when the pup tries to put its teeth on you, take it by that flap, and pinch the flap just a bit. If you can get the pup to squeak, then you know you have its attention. Then in your most god awful MEAN voice, growl at the pup, shake its little head, and tell it NO BITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I generally do it twice. Then you let the pup go.

What many of us do is what is called "conning the pup". Try to entice the pup into trying to nail you so you have lots of chances to give the correction. Just do not deliberately INVITE the dog to bite you. That is not fair. Usually by the time my pups were 4 weeks old they were completely trustworthy to not bite me.

My STEPMOTHER, however was a different story. She knew what to do, but didn't "want to be mean to the babies." Well, she got the crap bitten out of her face a couple of times. One night I had taken my lastest litter of 4 pups over there (she lived next door about 150 feet away), and sat there and watched while little Gator Gut reached out from her hands where she had him cupped (They were about 4 1/2 weeks old) and bit the crapola out of her cheek and would not let go!!!!!!!!!!! Little monster, rofl. But it was her own fault. She just would not correct the pups. They would also chomp hell out of her ankles too, while we were sitting out on the back deck. She kept griping to me..."why don't they bite you??????" Heheheh, GUESS why not, Helen, rofl. Bless her heart......she passed away January of 2002. And I inherited her two TMTs, and Whippets. Bubbles, who died last week was one of Helen's 2 Whippets. She is with her momma once again.

So, anyway, do as I have written and it will put an end to your torture and make sure your dog never has to be put down because it has become a biter.
