hello, my 6 month old aussie shep mix was spayed aabout 3 weeks ago, since then we have noticed her biting ather hip, a few days ago we noticedher limping and when i checked her out i noticed a largepatch of hair bitten out of her righ hip area. we took her to the vet they said possible hip dysplagia. after her manipulated her hips she could hardly walk. after thinking about it all, i realized that ahe has only been biting herselfsince she was spayed, has anyome heard of a vet injuring the dog during her spay surgery??? In the mean time i wastold to give her baby asprin. i am so worried

Consult another vet for a second opinion. I really doubt a dog that young would have hip dyplasia.

Tell the vet when she was spayed, and ask him if that could casue her to bit at her hip. Have him examin all the possibilities, and go from there. For the mean time, Asprin will help her pain. Make an appoitment ASAP with another vet though, because if its a spaying compications, it could be serious!

thank you for your reply, I thought that her having hip dysplagia was weird b/c when we got her and ever since she has been very active and happy. I am going to call another vet tommorow morning, and get an appoinment. thanks

Yeah, have her checked out again--it may be some sort of psychological thing even.

A note on the hip dysplasia--it's rare, but it can and does surface in dogs this young. One of Sawyer's doggie buddies out at the park is a German Shorthair that's a little over a year old and already has had one hip replaced because of HD. It expressed on him when he was 6-9 months old. But Aussies aren't quite as prone to HD because of their stature.

Yes, it does show up in severe cases. Glad you're getting a second opinion. Let us know. Do you know if the parents were OFA tested ??
