I have a silky terrier- we got him about a month ago from some friends- he's 5,and quite sweet- I gave him a puppy cut,to keep him clean(3rd dog and all) but it's my first time with a dog with hair like this- how do I cut the hair on his feet? with clippers? a friend of mine said I have to clip in between his pads- but I fear the clippers cutting his skin if i try this....
I haven't yet trimmed there-
BTW he's VERY foot shy- obviously never trained to have his feet touched well- I've been working with him on his nails- but it's slow going- so I'd like to clean up his paws too now-
he hasn't bitten, just shown some attitude when I work with his feet which he's learning not to do.......I've got him to the point of letting me handle his feet without a fuss and he ignores me,along with a tiny clip of nails

I use scissors.. Mine aren't feet shy mind you. I've tried clippers I found it didn't do a better job. You should be removing the hair in the middle of the pad. I often don't. I remove what is easy, move each toe pad apart to trim it shorter, etc.

I use scissors on feet. Clippers are bulky, get hot, buzz, and generally irritate. You may want to get snub nosed scissors however if you are worried about jerking and pulling.

Depending on your dogs enviorment, they may wear down their own foot hair. My Afghans have a paved yard so they never grow long foot hair.
