This probably isn't the correct term, but I have a question about a dogs' "pants". That poofy patch of fur on their bums..

Pit's pants are very long and very thick and it just looks bad. What would look even worse is if I were to cut it and have it be noticeable. Is there any way to trim the pants so that they're not so long while maintaining a natural appearance?
I have thinning shears and I'm sure that would help, but I don't know of any techniques to use for this kind of job.

I just want to make them short enough that they will stick out (looking fluffy) and not hang down so they look like curtains. Jeesh, I wish I had pictures to explain this a little better.

Any ideas?

Edit: Oh duh, Pit's butt is in my signature. You can see how the hair is long enough to drag the pants down (this is starting to sound silly) instead of them puffing out nicely like I'd like them to.

Thinning shears would take those out very nicely. It would serve your purpose for sure. You just have to make sure you know what your doing! lol if you take the shears against the growth of the hair it could be disastrous.
But if you do it right, it would be gorgeous!
In the grooming industry, we actually call thining shears the magic eraser. :p
So.. thats my suggestion lol
Good luck and gorgeous dog!
