I posted some of these in the picture and Intro section....but someone suggested I should post some here....I also thought I would talk a little about what I am doing with my pups.
Currently I have two white shepherds - my import female (NHSB papers) Ruby who is nearly 14 months old, and my Ambred male, Leo, who is just over 8 months old. I'm training both of them for SchH and SDA, and I am working Ruby in Herding as well (I need Leo to be a little older before I start with him).
This past week was both my pups first time on an intermediate sleeve...and Ruby's second time on a sleeve and Leo's first time on a sleeve period. I was really happy with how training went...though i didnt get any pictures...
Ruby has more medium drives, but her nerves are great. She's a jumper - we're finding our biggest problem with the sleeve is she is coming in too hard and bouncing off....we did manage to help that some in the most recent training session...lol...but then me and my clumsiness interefered with her carrying.
As far as herding - Ruby has tons and tons of drive for that :) She's alot of fun to watch...and her hardness turns up a hefty notch for the sheep. I'm going to try and work her towards the AKC C course...and then perhaps, if I can, take her to get some HGH training - but that might be hard considering my location....the closest herding instructor to me at school is a little over 2 hours away...which is a fortune in gas money :(
Leo has awsome drives...food, ball, tug, prey, defensive and prey. I actuall;y would go as far to say that he is a little too defensive...but with confidence we have been able to calm him down some...he has a nice calm carry with the wedge...on the sleeve he has the same poblem carrying - me :( I would say that his nerves arent quite as good as Ruby's are...but they're certainly not bad....he reacts more violently to things...but he bounces right back...which is what I need.
My goal is to build a working (herding, Prot. Sport, Military, Police, SAR) line of whites in the US using a mixing of American and European (European : Amaroq, Bossanova, Bodyguard, Trust). There are some great lines over on this side of the puddle....I know of some people working their dogs in SchH, some Narc dogs, and some SAR lines which are nice (Leo is linebred on the littermates/siblings of a SAR and a Narc Dog)...but most of the titled lines are in Europe. Ruby and Leo so far are a great start :)
Next I'll post some of the pictures from Ruby's first sleeve experience and from Leo's last time on the wedge :
