Hi. I am new to this site but there seems to be alot of helpful people out there! We just adopted two golden retreiver/lab mix puppies from the humane society. We just got through a bout of worms with Daisy and she is doing fine. Jedi was fine through that whole time and didn't show any symptoms but last night he had diarhea and vomited throughout the night. Does anyone have any suggestions to what may be causing this. I plan on calling the vet when they open but wanted to be armed with some ideas when I take him in. Thanks.

ohh...your poor pup
I'm not much help on idea's of what it might be, but I would worry about dehydration if I were you. Make sure your pup is drinking plenty of fluids......other's will be more help.

How old is the puppy that is sick? Also, how often did he/she have diarrhea and vomiting? What did the vomit look like? I know I'm asking for alot of details but it will help others determine what the problem may or may not be. Sometimes, changing food, stressful situations, new situations anything like that can cause an upset stomache. Is he/she acting normal otherwise?

Does Daisy have any sign as well? Definitely take him to the vet as soon as possible.

Jedi and Daisy are 10 weeks old. They are both being treated for worms and are on thier third dose. Daisy was pretty bad when we first got them but we thought it was the change of environment and the fact that she was just spayed. When I called the Hum. Soc. they informed me that they both were completely infested with worms when they got them; which they neglected to tell us. Anyway, we've never seen worms in Jedi's stool and him getting sick is really just out of the blue. We have an appt today at 4:30 and they said to try and give him a little bit of food and water and see if he can hold it down. We will know in an hour how that works out....Oh, and his poop was had a yellow tinge and seemed a little mucasy, but no blood.

They didn't do any blood test? If it's parvo, it needs to be treated fast before it's too late. I would go see another vet...

What kind of worms are they infested with? I'm just curious as to why it would take 3 treatments... Well let us know how it all turns out, your vet appt. is for 4:30 today so hopefully it will be o.k. and you can have a nice weekend.

Parvo was my 1st thought.....hope not !!!

They had round worms and we were told that it would take 5 treatments over the course of 25 days to treat.
Supposedly when they were at the Hum. Soc. they were checked out so I am hoping that this isn't something bad. Maybe he just ate something in the yard that he shouldn't of. He did eat about an hour ago and is holding it down. Keep your fingers crossed for us!

Also do you knwo if they have had any vaccines yet? Plus w/ the diarrhea and vom. you might want to go w/a bland diet like boiled chicken and rice. The reg dog food might be too much for their tummies right now.
I'm glad you have a vet apt. and ask about parvo, I so hope not but if they didn't have a vac then it is better to know. Also have them check to make sure that they don't have any other type of worms. Diff worm meds for diff worms (for example pyrantel does not killtape worms, that is usually given by an injection or tablet).
Let us know what happens, PLEASE!

They had their first set of shots at the Hum. Soc and we have an appt. for the next set at the end of the month. They haven't had their rabies shot yet, too young, but have both been spayed and neutered, go figure...Not old enough for rabies but old enough to be fixed!

Some rescue do that (ntr & spay) b/c some people we adopt themand say that they will have them fixed and then not do it and breed them. So they have to do what is best for the dogs overall and not necessarily the best for the medically. It can be done earlier but it is safer when they are older. Sometimes people stink!

oh I hope the puppies ok, please let us know what is going on. I'm so worried. I've seen what happens to puppies when they get that and it's really sad.

Well we are back from the vet and so far so good. They gave Jedi an IV drip to replenish some of his lost fluids. They also did a Parvo test and it came back negative, YAY! They said it is either another parasite, viral, stress or a combination. They put him on Albon for the next 10 days to fight off some of the "what it could be's". Thanks for everyones concern; I really appreciate it and will keep you posted!
