I hate when they generalize every dog of one breed to be the same, when it is the owners who either do not socialize them, or do not train them, or (the worst) train them to be mean.
I have met many staffs ("pitt") that are very nice and even great w/ kids.
We even had one at the rescue that was so nice. He was called scareface b/c he had a mark across his muzzle and it was kind of a joke, big mean dog that was was a pussy cat. Well this family took him to foster... for like 3-4 months. They didn't pay for him so they never actually adopted him. He had a few minor thing that we took him to the vet and they did not pay for. Plus they would bring him back. we kept trying to set up times and it was pushed and pushed. Then they were moving and couldn't keep him so they brought him back. In those few months he completely changed. He was dog aggressive, hard to handle and control and was very unprodictable. I thought it had to be a different dog. This dog used to roll over in your lap, play w/ other dogs and I mean calm play and was so nice around kids. We were seriously thinkg of having to put him down b/c what they changed him into. It is really said that people (YES PEOPLE not breeds) can do this to dogs.
I wish we could either not allow certain peole to have dogs (or stop breeding them-PEOPLE I wish :D ) instead of not breeding certain dog breeds.

Now once again people are not educated on the different breeds and what they can or can not do or what they may or may not do. We live in a society that would much rather just do away with certain breeds than come to understand what makes them tick. Yeah yeah yeah pits, rotties, dobbies, bull mastifs for that matter are all large breed dogs who can do a world of hurt, but so can shephards, poodles for that matter, but the world as a whole doesnt look at it like that. The cuter they are they more harmless they are??? Please, how do we educate people on the proper etiquite of animals and how to raise them. Ifr we could do away with those who want to fight them, train them to kill etc then maybe these breeds have a fighting (sorry) chance at life and living the way they should as companions.

The story of the rat trap was right on the money...firearms owners can relate to that well, so can anyone who smokes, drinks, takes a little something to calm their nerves and all of the rest of the victims of the great witch hunt

Buckshot hits the target again - I encourage everyone to read the pop-up with the rat trap story in it if you read nothing else.

i have a question...out of just curiousness for the answer(dont get me wrong i am an advocate for pits, love them)...but ok everyone whos for the pits say it is not the pits fault but there owners(which is true), but is it just very coicidental that pits are getting bad owner after bad owner, like if pits can be as kind spirited as any other dog, and have the same amount of chances of getting a bad owner as any other dog, then why are they popping up the most in newspapers?. i have always wondered this. And i am sure there is a question like this one the forum, been looking for it, but its just about pit buolls saving lives and attacks.

I would guess that the breeds bad reputation is a plus with people who want a mean intimidating dog for their own. People with that type of mind set probably get the dog to feed their egos and dont really care about the dog itself. Folks who dont care about their dogs deeply make this type of mean dog and the cycle continues. This of course is just my guess and I dont have much knowledge about it.

Mm-hmm. Too many people trying to convince others that they're tough because they have "tough" looking dogs  And it escalates from there; the mentality is "my dog is badder than your dog, so I'm badder than you." All ego. And don't let anyone kid you, a Pit Bull is as much a fashion statement for those people as a teacup dog in a designer handbag is for the fashionista crowd.
